help with turtles
« on: April 28, 2010, 08:29:01 pm »

I have a possessed dwarf who needs shells...I have a tame turtle in an animal trap...but for the life of me I cannot get my dwarves to butcher this thing. It doesn't show up under the 'u' or 'z' menus and I have a fishery that has been set to 'prepare a raw fish' for quite some time. I honestly wish shells were produced when dwarves ate them and not just when they are processed. Any help would be appreciated.

You can't butcher live tame turtles, unfortunately.  You need to have a fisherdwarf fish from a pond or pool or brook and get raw turtle, then use a fishery to prepare it.

I insist upon knowing what an onyx monster looks like.

Yes. Clearly a bug that ought to be fixed in the future, but exploit it in the meantime.

I think an onyx monster looks just like an obsidian or jet monster, to be honest!  I keep mixing them up.

And the horror, wanting to butcher a tame turtle in a terrarium.  The little guy loses his wildness, becomes a pet and then BAM artifact material!
