Wizard's of the Coast brought us black adamantine in D&D 3rd Ed. Strangely, this was only seen through the artwork representing various adamantine-coated constructs and weapons.

I like to imagine it looking sort of like the swords these guys are wielding. Mainly because it looks awesome in spite of still being cyan.

*edit* link changed, direct linking to the image isn't nice I guess

OK, those are kinda awesome, but for some reason I always imagined it as a sort of dull purplish. It may have something to do with how much Discword I have read and the visible properties of octorin, the color of magic.

I hear if you combine them with dwarven syrup you can make rhesus pieces.

There are no Kangaroos in Austria. Trust me.

Lol; I usually HATE over-proportioned weaponry, but adamantine's just light enough that you could maybe pull it off...

Naahhh.....

Great, now I have the image of a dwarf lobbing around a sword three times his size stuck in my head...

If I recall official DnD says adamantine is jet black. But I also remember it being heavy, which may or may not be right.

I don't know what color it was in tolkien, though, and can't find anything on it online.

Yeah, D&D Adamantine is completely different from DF Adamantine (among other things, it's about as heavy as a standard metal, rather than being insanely light), and it is indeed black or a sort of darkish metallic color.

A very hard mostly-clear foamlike substance with a slight cyan colored luminecence.  Raw adamantine has a very sharp, rough texture, capable of easily slicing open the hand if handled wrong, even through thick gloves.  And is found in thick strands interwoven through rock. When heated to 10140 U, the adamantine gains a plastic consistency, and loses it's sharp edges, allowing it to be very easily shaped even by hand. All attempts to truly melt the materiel have ended in failure. When re-cooled the adamantine does not regain it's rough sharp texture, instead becoming incredibly smooth.  However, if the adamantine is worked into a thin shape the edges gain an extrodinary sharpness, sharper than any other materiel known.

Although the materiel is far too light for use in arrows or blunt weapons,  The incredible hardness combined with it's light weight make ideal armor.  Even clothing woven of this materiel has shown potential as impenetrable armor, although more testing needs to be done in that area.  The materiels sharpness also shows potential use in bladed weapons, such as swords, spears, and axes.

^^
That would be how I see Adamantine.

Thats how the wiki should introduce it. Well written.

Maybe we should add a reaction for "Weapons Grade Adamantine", which would have a much higher density....

Or create an alloy using Adamantine, though the idea of that is kind of weird.  Perhaps another type of legendary metal could be added with the same reqs as Adam?  Like orichalcum, or some other "unobtainium".

Well, adamantine is super-light and super-sharp, right?

So it would make sense to add unobtainium, which would be super-heavy and super-blunt... meaning it would make for awesome blunt weapons.

The alloy of the two could create a material that's not as good for swords as adamantine and not as good for maces as unobtainium, but it's really good for armor.

I Imagine the dwarves could make it heavier just by trying to mix some lead or something in.  I know next to nothing about actual metallurgy, so I don't actually know how making an alloy works, but gameplaywise it makes sense, and would give lead some actual use.  Other than goblets for elf trade of course.

Most Adamantine gear is the color of elf blood.
