Calling dibs is a bit stupid. I mean, everyone can choose what he wants.

Death and War for me. Freaking monopolist.

What about this system for spheres?

Spheres:

Every God will have to choose a main sphere. (It'd be nice for it to be something that could be divided into smaller spheres. For example: Life, which could be divided into nature, birth, and lots of other things.)

Next they will choose a second sphere: If this sphere would be either close to, or some sub-sphere of the main sphere, you would get a third sphere. (If you'd choose birth, you'd get yet another sphere. If you'd choose growth, you'd get another sphere. If you'd choose Earth, you won't get another sphere.)

The third sphere will always be a sphere that is close to the main sphere. (For life it could be nature, for example. This to make sure you won't choose Life - Growth - Death, ending with a totally different sphere.)

Whether spheres are close to or opposed to one another is open for discussion.

Your acts are more powerful (or cheaper) when they overlap with your spheres. When they oppose one them (God of Life raising undead) they will be far more costly and less powerful. (Exception if you've got only two spheres that oppose one another: Life <-> Death). If the aforementioned God of Life, Growth and Nature would 'boost' the forests to grow, they would use all three spheres, and it'll have a massive effect compared to a God of for example Fire would have.

Note: If you don't like this system, we could always brainstorm for another one.

I'd be more inclined towards a hierarchical system of spheres that you define ahead of time.

The 'primary' spheres would be things like Life, Death, Fire, Water, etc and would be predefined but no god can simply claim a primary sphere. 'Death' is too broad and powerful for a fledgling god to handle.

So a god associated with death must choose an aspect of death, like 'god of murder' or 'god of pain'. We would only have one sphere to start, and could spend multiple acts to 'claim' more spheres for ourselves as we gain in power in influence.

Of course this depends on the deific model you're shooting for. Are gods eternal beings, neither created or destroyed? Are gods sustained by the belief of their worshippers? If worshippers sustain the gods, then their spheres should be whatever the people believe the god controls. If every follower of vulcan, god of the earth, suddenly also believed that he was also the god of lightning because lightning is hot... poof he gains new power over lightning.

Up to you.

That's what I said. We might even decide to use the same sphere-system that Dwarf Fortress uses. If there's something missing, we could just as well add it.

Your primary sphere won't add that much strength to your acts. It's the specialization that does that. The God of Murder, for example, would be better off acting for murder than when simply acting through the sphere of death. If the God would also use the sphere of knives, his acts would be most efficient murdering with knives. (Don't take this literally. :P)

Also, I very much like the idea of the pre-defined spheres and most of our power comes out of specialisation.

*In which case, I either want to play a mortal or the god of Knives and Murder.

When this starts, Imma gonna create 3 or 4-Act demigods to act as (minor) bad guys, because y'all can't apparently play without an antagonist of some sort. (Of course, someone could always play an 'evil' god, but I'm still doing it.)

Also, I'm thinking of creating here by some other manner than just bringing in something from thin air, atleast mostly (cutting off body parts to create species, going around all Zeus-like with mortals, stuff like that).

You could start it off like the "Time of Troubles" legend from forgotten realms when suddenly all the gods were forced into phsyical bodies and thrown to the planet's surface, confined to walk the earth and unable to return to the heavens. Then as we unlock the mystery surrounding our creation and what happened, we could slowly regain our power.

Don't worry. I've got some not fully outlined ideas already, and they're a bit close to what you're saying now.

Note: You won't really need an antagonist, I'll make sure of that.
