Well, in my mind it has been over a week since the events of Elan's star. Also, these are magically animated statues. They don't need to eat, drink, rest, and don't have to worry about dying in the void, because they don't breathe. They should be able to move there pretty fast.

But if Caesar wants it take longer, I'm okay with that. They have time...

But yeah, they wouldn't survive that. And seeing as most of their population is inside, they'd be screwed when the Vanguard attacks.
But what kind of sick maniac designs their ship with the ability to flood it with plasma?

The AI would neutralize a sizable portion of the population, reduce them to heaps of slag and store the DNA in its memory banks. Later on, the AI would remake the race, and teach it and shit.
