And to prevent the forum going Fun on me, I just occasionally select the entire post with ctrl-A, and then ctrl-C it.
It'll be reasonably safe in my clipboard.

If I really fear losing it, I occassionaly save it into a temporary notepad file. This way I can type it here, without having a hard time italicizing and the likes, but I won't lose it.

I always write long posts in Word, because the message box always freaks out on me when I try to scroll down on very long ones. Dunno why. I don't think it happens on Firefox but damnit I ain't changing browsers.
