Are we even sure we can find a buyer? I mean who wants to pay good money for some robot made from random scrap?

I am confident that the game mechanics will allow it.
How's this?
We build the robot, with platform, programming, and touch sensor. We scope out parts shops (RadioShack, Home Depot, toy stores), and also look for buyers. If we can sell it for more than it will cost us to make another, we do so; if not, we go to the junkyard.
Sound good?

yes
I think we should ponder a similiar design to Medium RC Rollor except using small motor then replace RC Motor to see how much improvement in capability junk yard raiding.

Action 14
You put the last finishing touches on the design, and set to work. You work at a leisurely pace, taking pleasure in the work, making sure each cut and joint and line of code is perfect. Well, perfect-ish. You spend a couple hours writing the code, and a few hours after that the robot is complete. You let out a sigh as you step back and admire your masterpiece. You got a little... creative, in the implementation. The two motion sensors have become a sort of antennae, and you can collapse the plate on its back to make it look just like an adorable little giant beetle. You even drew some eyes on it with a marker from your drawer. You set your laptop into the notch you made for it, and power the robot up. With a shudder, it begins to roll forward, bumbling about the room as it builds a mental map of its surroundings. It gets stuck once, but you use the manual override to get it out and then optimize a bit of the code to prevent it from happening again.

Well, okay, not so much a masterpiece, really, but considering what you had to work with, not bad either. You stretch, satisfied. Masterpiece or no, it certainly scratched that itch. You feel like you accomplished something. It didn't exactly push the limits of your skill, being the Killbotics specialist you are, but it's been too long - you were worried you were starting to get rusty.

New Invention Gained: Carrier Beetle (Medium RC Roller w/Laptop Hookup, RC control, Collapsable Platform, Touch Sensors)
Gained Skill: Engineering +.2
Gained Skil: Programming + .2
New Stat Bar Added: Hunger
New Stat Bar Added: Tiredness

Spoiler: Schematics and Mods (click to show/hide)

So, what are you going to do to follow this up, that's the REAL question.

You are Somewhat Tired.
You are somewhat Hungry.

I think we should build one more device before we go: A tazer. I can't quite remember what all the parts do, but I think we can build a simple one out of the parts from the microwave and some scraps of metal. Even better would be a smoke bomb-like device, but we don't have the parts for that.

We should definitely do this soon, but I don't think we have enough bits yet. A fair-sized capacitor or decent-sided battery would be needed. On the plus side, we could probably use the transformer we have in reverse if it's small enough for a handheld taser, upping the amperage.

Also, keep in mind, guys, that the scrapyard is a good hour away, if I do recall; we won't have much time to look around once we get there if we don't want to be out in the middle of the night. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but just to keep it in mind.

Agreed. Heavily discounted, non-moldy plant matter should on the list too, for avoidance of scurvy.

I have absolutely no idea what's going on in this fort any more. Migrants arrive, they die for some reason, the fort is flooded for another reason, then dwarves go mad, more dwarves die and I'm just laughing in my distress.

Sell the robot at 9:30 at night?  ???

Only reason we're going to be able to get food is 24-hour convenience stores.

Since most of society's in bed by now and we still have energy, we might want to take another trip to the junkyard.

And sell the beetle? I like it. It's cute.

Maybe we can start working on making advanced AI... If we can make a "dumb" AI, like New Mombassa's AI from Halo: ODST, that can make our life buttloads easier.
