However, it is not too late to enter this challenge! The contest ends on June 1st, leaving you with a little over a month to do this. That's still a good amount of time, though, so feel free to jump in at any time.

The rules:

Let me know that you are starting, and post screenies along the way.

First, you must embark anywhere, with whatever mods you wish. But, you'll have to let us know what mods you are using!
Second, Train an army, you'll need it (it doesn't have to be 300 soldiers, I'm just calling the challenge that, the reason being...)
Third, Dig to hell, kill the demons, and then CONSTRUCT A LEGENDARY DINING HALL.

Take a screenshot (preferably with as much of your dwarven population down there as possible., a save, and then post here as well as a reiteration as to what mods you used.
Then what?

Once the contest ends, I will post a poll, along with links to everyone's final submissions. The winner is the one who's dining hall is loved by the most. The only way you can really get disqualified is if you decide not to post your mods. Then nobody will know how much you twisted things your way.

And you can't eat them, either, sadly. Even though it'd make sieges so much more fun; dwarves lining the walls, drooling and carrying sharp knives and forks, ready for the upcoming meals.

Urgh. I may have to resign from this. EVERY time I play, any more, I get to do things for about 45 minutes to an hour before the game crashes. I'm finding it very frusterating and tiresome. No indication of what the crash is from, no errorlog file. Nothing. Just thud gone goodbye to the last hour of work. Sometimes, rarely, it'll decide to let me play for 2-3 hours, and crash right before a new spring,.. thus letting me waste an entire game year.

Not sure I can play like this. :(

Genning a world for this. Tried to make the underground smaller so I didn't have to dig through 100 z-levels to get down there, though I found that the settings seemed more then acceptable by default (just downloaded new version) so all I ended up changing was that titans can attack me at 1 wealth. Didn't change the population limit for titan attack, though. Didn't occur to me until now.

EDIT: I'm trying to decide, should I choose this embark, which has the world's only volcano:

This embark:

Or try to find someplace even more dwarven?

Making progress in mining out a great caravan road downward. Decided not to bother with a fortress on/near the surface, instead going straight down to the magma ocean (and, hopefully, the adamantine shaft won't be far away. Chose the embark with the world's only volcano, just for the symbolism. Turns out it's over 50 z-levels high, and my attempt to reduce underground Z-levels appears to have only succeeded in making a single, hundred z-level cavern so deep I can see only specks of the bottom. There's also a leopard somewhere on the map. A gigantic, black leopard.

Migrants, and I don't even have an actual fortress yet.

Ah, of course. I hit the second cavern right where I was going to put my pre-challenge fort.

About 10 z-levels from the bottom of the 2nd layer to the bottom. Hope it didn't cut the adamantine vein...

I was thinking of what ridiculous extravagance I should have in my dining hall to set it apart from any others who actually finish this competition. I then glanced at a gold vein and thought, "Make it out of solid gold."
It shall be done.

Just hit the second cavern, apparently the last one I hit was the third. This one is literally is right on top of where my fortress was going to be.

A cat has just dragged a "creepy crawler" into what is currently the temporary food storage and will eventually be the temporary dining hall. Interesting.

Found the magma sea. And it's right where was going to place the farms...

Found the adamantine. It seems it was cut short by the caverns.

Another adamantine vein! I was hoping there'd be more then one...

I'm in.

Mods:

Dwarves gain NO_SLEEP and lose ALCOHOL_DEPENDENT.

EDIT: Also, my military will use only a bronze spear, bronze shield, and bronze helm each. Except the squad leaders. Their shields will be switched to adamantine.

It appears that the isolated nature of this island means I have almost no threat from the surface, and as such external defensive measures are unnecessary. This is entirely un-dwarven, and if I haven't spent so much time on this fort I'd start a new embark on that terrifying mountain/joyous tundra.

EDIT: SO IT WAS FORETOLD BY THE MAD PROPHETS THAT A GREAT TEMPLE, MADE OF METAL OF BOTH MORTAL GREED AND DIVINE BLESSING, SHALL BE BUILT DEEP IN THE HORRID BOWELS OF ARMOK'S BEATING HEART. THIS TEMPLE SHALL BE BATHED AND FORGED BY THE BLOOD AND BODIES OF A HUNDRED DWARVES, AND IN THE CENTER OF THIS TEMPLE SHALL LAY A BRASS THRONE, GLEAMING WITH THE STYGIAN LIGHT OF ARMOK HIMSELF AND DRENCHED IN THE BLOOD OF THE FALLEN. UPON THIS THRONE SHALL SIT ARMOK'S CHOSEN, HIS ONE CHAMPION, THE ENLIGHTENED AVATAR OF HIS WILL. ALL SHALL BOW BEFORE HIM, AND ALL WHO RESIST SHALL COAT THE THRONE ONCE MORE IN FRESH BLOOD.

BLOOD FOR THE BLOOD GOD!!!

That was implied, yes.

In other news, it appears I have encountered either a bug or an annoying feature. My miners are refusing to mine any farther into the adamantine shafts.

Follow an adamantine vein. Always works. (Except for the case where it's too thin in a magma-submerged location.)

I broke into the underworld, just to see what we'll be up against...

I think I may actually need an army of 300.

I managed to get an adventurer down there once...  He didn't last very long though.  Would it count as an entry if I did it again but brought a table and chair with?  Last time I tried with a fortress too many of the buggers were immortal.

I'm debating whether it's more dwarven to fight likely immortal demons repeatedly and die every time, or drown them in obsidian and build a giant golden temple to Armok. I suppose I could atone for such methods by sacrificing them to Armok's table...

The only immortal ones are the blobs. The rest can be beheaded.
