Something wrong...
« on: April 27, 2010, 03:16:10 pm »

I feel.. Odd..

So I've been killing every single immigrant who comes to my fort who doesn't fit certain criteria - namely, at this point, I'd accept an accomplished/high master Surgeon -AND- Bone setter, or any weaponsmith (for their moods..after which, they die).

Yet I just had a child come.  I can't reasonably kill the child without an elaborate deal, but everyone else who came I killed instantly via atom-smasher.  Then the child was miserable - as both his parents, who were apparently everyone he knew in the world, were just crushed into oblivion.  The child went berserk, and had to be put down..

I don't know.. it gives me this strange feeling inside..  Like..  Hrm.. Can't place my finger on it.

Oh - *snap*  I remember.  I have one less drain on my resources.  Happiness!

So... is there an actual question?

Ah.  Crap.  Meant this to be in discussion.  Clicked on the wrong topic.  My bad.  Apologies.

No biggie. Just move the thread.

OT: Sounds like fun.

I know it's unrealistic, but I can't help but imagine little bearded babies for dwarves. In my mind, they come out of the womb fully bearded. That's how the mother carries them around, too, she just drags them around by the beard or ties it to her belt. When the father's on duty, he just ties their beards together and the baby just kind of hangs there, swinging to and fro with Urist McDaddy's movements.

You have contracted micrographopathy. It's like violent psychopathy but aimed exclusively at certain small pictographs on your computer monitor. Treatment involves meditation, abstinence and, you guessed it, magma.

Isn't that also the cure for chronic Elveninity (AKA tree huggers syndrome)?

No, the cure for Elvinity is simple magma. Meditation makes it worse, and abstinence has no real effect. 'Cause, you know. Elves.

Magma has many applications.

It's also a renowned solution to gobliciosis.

...you kill all your legendary weaponsmiths?

...why?

Yes. Clearly a bug that ought to be fixed in the future, but exploit it in the meantime.

The moment came for me when I was starving out a pair of particularly irksome nobles (this was before I figured out more ... direct methods of dealing with them)

They were both horribly depressed (not to mention thirsty and starving) and for some reason I decide to check on their thoughts.  Uristina McDwarf has been sad lately.  She had a miscarriage.

I was like "ahh..."

I didn't let them out, mind you, but I still felt bad.

Because I don't particularly need more than one?  Not -all- of them.  My first is missing his left hand.  Initially I thought he'd be the first I'd kill off, once I got another, but seeing as I know he's a legendary + 5 and that not having a left hand doesn't seem to impact his ability to forge weapons of any less quality than any other legendary + 5 dwarf, I've decided to keep him.

I prefer to imagine that he's replaced his left hand with a forging hammer.

Replacing it with an anvil and holding the hammer in his teeth/beard/nostril.

Smithy was not nearly as badass of a dwarf. Admit it.
