Stunningly beautiful caverns
« on: April 26, 2010, 10:17:21 pm »

Some of the first caverns I looked at made me think "blegh, these places are pretty ugly."

However, you do come across some real gems too.

This is why the current abundance of minerals is a good thing.

All the colors...it's like a magical wonderland...

Add some goblin warriors and your dwarven soldiers, it'll add a nice splash of red. THEN it'll be perrrfect.

I found a cavern on a terrifying tundra that had like 20 z-levels of open space with water at the bottom. Too bad I was just using it as adventurer access. I'll have to reclaim it eventually.

The beauty is lost on dwarves seeing as how they just bump around in the dark. Not that they would give a damn, what do they look like fairies?

Dig deeper, or read the Caverns page and look at the vegetation. There is more than one cavern you know.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

Dwarves are more creative than average so I'm sure they'd appreciate the beauty.

Raising Minimum 'Cavern Layer Openness' in the world gen options gets you more of these large open areas, instead of the tiny passageways. For my most recent fortress I set mine to maximum, so each layer is completely made up of interconnected caverns (no passageways at all).

Yup, I hit a beautiful one too with water and magma. Nearly brought tears to my eyes. With a beautiful GCS that ambushed my beautiful miner. This caused my beautiful archer to pitch a fit and kill my mayor.

*sniff* It's just so lovely.
