Solution to Mayor bug?
« on: April 25, 2010, 03:08:05 pm »

Hi everyone!

I've recently become addicted to this awesome game... unfortunately, on my most elaborated fortress yet (still a joke compared to most things I see online) I have encountered a nefarious bug that prevents me from getting an Arsenal Dwarf... Mayor, etc...

This bug has been documented... hence I skip the step of informing about it, and now I wonder if there is some workaround this problem?

I currently returned to an earlier save in which I still only had 36 pop, however... this one was already bugged and I didn't notice!!

I have no expedition leader (I doesn't even appear on the nobles list) and of course, no Arsenal Dwarf, so my army stays happily on their shirts and trousers, even if there are plenty of steel weapons to go around...

Can anybody help?

As far as I know, the only way to do it is to abandon it and send a re-claim party.

They will eventually elect a new mayor, but it can take a year or two of game time.

Problem is, I don't even have a Mayor... I'm under 50 pop...

There's really no other choice but abandoning?  :'(

Just wait until you get enough migrants. Or just seal yourself away from the surface until you have enough babies in your fortress to get a mayor.

I'll have to build a crapload of traps so I don't endanger my only two soldiers... specially considering the medicine skills still don't work!

Thanks!

Just wall off the outside world. You can use an airlock design to still allow migrants in.

If you want to use traps, use either cage traps or weapon traps loaded with steel discs. Rock traps don't do anything due to the material changes. The traps need to be slicing traps. Axe blade traps should also work fine.

Mhhh... I still haven't used steel disc traps... now seems a good time to test them!!

Thanks!

I noticed from my own game that if a noble enacts a mandate the screen comes back so you can employ arsenaldwarf, broker, ect.

If you're over 50 population they should elect a (new) mayor when the season changes, if I remember right...

It might be worth starting a new fortress and coming back to that one when the bug is fixed. Abandoning and reclaiming is an option, but that will put you back to 7 dwarves and your items will be scattered all across the map.

I'll keep my fingers crossed...

For the record, my dwarves didn't elect a mayor when they reached 50 >_<

It can take a little while. They should elect someone within a year.

This is good to know, I just wish I knew it a bit earlier. Like before I abandoned my fort 3 times.
