Fist time modding help

Long time lurker-first time poster, mostly cause I'm a bit confused here.

My goal is to pretty much make an above-ground version of swallow-men- the Aarakocra (Props if you know what it's from)

I made the creature- pretty much by mixing up the raws of dwarves and cave-swallow-men, and even though I've regened the world a few times, the birds never come into existence, I put the raws in between the entry for dwarves and the entry for humans... so they should exist, at least in legends.

I don't see a problem right now, may it be difficulty:4? I've never tried it that high. Other than that, I do not see a problem immideately.

Changed it to difficulty 2 and regened... They still won't show up in legends and I can't play as one as an adventurer, but the do appear in arena mode now.

You need to either set them up as an entity (in which case they'll make cities and such) or give them the [LARGE_ROAMING] tag so they will roam into the map like other creatures.

To be prominently mentioned in the legends I think you'll need them set up as an entity, otherwise they'll probably just get casually mentioned being killed or killing other creatures.

Hey, LARGE_ROAMING may be the cause. I haven't tried to make a creature without it, so you should try.

Entity tokens would be... things I had no idea about before, awesome.

Also question about the [POWER] tag, is it required for a creature to show up as a Deity in the Legends screen, or is it for the demons who sit there pretending to be the god of Civ.?

But they still refuse to show up in Adventure/Legends mode. Also, when you look at them in arena mode, it only describes the the skin color... yeah, I think I'm need need of a bit more help here.

Modding creatures lesson 12: Entity and creatures.
There is a difference between creatures and entitys. A creature is a stand alone thing, such as a human or a dwarf. An entity is a civilization made from that creature, such as the French or the Chinese.

Without an entity, a creature will not form civilizations and either wonder the world (Alone or in a pack) or not exist at all. If you want to form a civilization, you need to define a new object for the civilization called an entity that will define how the civilization behaves, such as where they live, what is socially acceptable, and how they interact with other entitys.

But yea, if it helps you can bring up the entity_default raw and the creature_standard raw to compare and contrast.

What do the varying syntaxes listed below control and what are the highs and lows? Another words, take DIFFICULTY for example, is a difficulty of 2 supposed to make the creature more tough and would raising it to 10 make it somehow invincible?

As far as I'm aware, DIFFICULTY affects where creatures appear when you're sent after them for quests and the like - higher numbers mean lower down in caves. I'm unsure as to whether or not it does anything in .31.

FREQUENCY ranges from 1 (0?) to 100 and affects how common it is for that creature to be generated in worldgen (presumably 0 is never - I'll have to check that out sometime, I've never set it to that - 50 is half as much, and 100 is normal). Very useful for determining how rare creatures should be.

POPULATION_NUMBER determines the overall population sizes the creature appears in in Fortress mode (and presumably affects their inital placement in world generation, although that'll quickly get outweighted by breeding). Format is min:max.

CLUSTER_NUMBER is similar to POPULATION_NUMBER, but determines how large the individual clusters that make up the population are (and determines the cluster sizes in Adventure mode).

Is there a way to randomly load equipment/weapons on monsters? So, instead of Tigermen or another humanoid always using claws/nails to attack, go into their RAW data and allot them some type of assorted weapons and armor.

Creatures that are generated separate from an entity, like wild Tigermen, can never have items equipped. The best you can do is give them a "Long Sword" bodypart or something, but it's very hackish.
