Cooked Food, Wasted
« on: December 05, 2006, 11:27:00 am »

Would it be at all possible to have the last step of the food-cooking process be:

Does cook also have Food Hauling?
If yes, is there a Food Stockpile with a free space?
If yes, haul the newly-cooked food to that location.

It happens fairly often in both the early and late game that my cook's speed outstrips the available food-haulers - even when I should have more than enough haulers to be covering the problem.

Alternately, could kitchens preserve food the same way that food stockpiles do?

I've posted about this before:
I think kitchens should have a barrel (read: fridge) in the same way that stills do.

Stills don't end up preserving anything.  There's an issue with turning the kitchen into the food stockpile, in the same way that the depot ends up as an abusable stockpile.  I could have the kitchen fill up sooner, and eventually be completely unusable, then it would work.  If the cook turns into a hauler, that would need to be optional, since it would slow down forts that have adequate food hauling.
