So are Blind Cave Bears any good then? Seeing as how Cave Bears, as they existed on earth prehistorically, were massive even in comparison to modern Kodiak bears I would guess yes but this assumes Blind Cave Bears are (de)evolved from regular Cave Bears (which to my knowledge don't exist in the game anyway). The description says they are giant but also emaciated in appearance.

In order to train bear cavalry, you need BEAR LORE.

It helps if you have a saddle as well.

Man, bear cavalry is gonna be AWESOME.

Horde of goblins streaming toward your fortress, spilling down into a channel that leads to the front gates. Suddenly, the floodgates open and the river washes away the bulk of the filth, and as the demoralized remainder on the far bank watch the squad of bear cavalry charges out, swims the river, and beats them to a bloody pulp. Then takes their socks.

Of course, once mounts work Dwarven Dragonriders will be the scourge of the world. Especially if they can flame on command...
