It took a good while, but I pulled it off. The Mega-Ton now has legs. It is officially a mech.

The real pain was getting it to look right, and flex properly.

In regards to the giant feet:
I imply that depending on the acceleration rate the heel slides towards the front allowing less surface area to get in the way of the movement. It slides back out as it slows down or stops to provide balance.

Those feet are huge.  Like, really huge, considering the toes don't articulate.  I have an articulation fetish though.

Some anyway.  Little chin-mounted anti-personnel blasters and heavier twin-blasters.  Not that there's a rating system of any kind of course.  I suppose it's a little under-armed for such a large target, but I'm cool with that.  Especially after having to redesign the body-guns four different ways before everything would fold properly.

I did figure out why I made the upper and lower neck joints.  The slanted stuff on the neck keeps the head from pivoting in flying mode by bumping up against the cockpit.  The head has to fold upward for the neck to twist, and the two joints work together to move the head up and forward so everything can move around freely in standing mode.

Apparently costs about 25 USD.  And I made it to be cheap.  Still cheaper than the terminator set (which still isn't even finished) though.

Alternately: The Brick Testament. It's a really fun look at what the bible would look like if interpreted literally. With Legos.
Just so I remember

I think the legs are supposed to just be one piece, dunno if you can get it in the LDD though.

25 dollars for that chess set seems like a lot. I wonder how they work out the price for these things, anyone know?

If you look closely, you can see that there are special pieces that can link up in the slots and provide rotation, provided the pieces fit. It takes about 5 pieces to make a joint for those legs. And that's also exploiting those jet turbine things for the mass I need as well as the tubular shape.

The ones I'm using specifically look like a plus shape with 5 points that insert total, 4 on one side in plus fashion, and a central shaft. You'll need a sufficiently large enough block to make use of it though, but those turbines are most ideal.

EDIT:
Within AssemblyByMe, where all the cross axles are, it's "assembly unit Ø3.2". It's midnight blue.

Here's the piece I'm talking about:

Care to elaborate on that?
Maybe with a picture.
Anyway, I've decided to go for generic hover things instead.

Front row: basic infantry, saw, recon/command
Back: blaster, shield

A) Did you have to link a giant screenshot of one piece, on this already bloated thread?  B) I use a top-connector piece and make hover-pads myself.

One-off production for each piece, then hand packing for the specific set, and probably international shipping.  You lose the price-brake of holistic production.  Of course, some of it is probably just gouging Lego-obsessed young-adults with the spare cash and inclination to buy a custom Lego set online.

I was just reading up on the history of Lego themes.  I dropped out of the hobby (more for lack of money than lack of interest) right around the UFO/Rockraider era of 1999ish.  Apparently I picked just the right time, because the entire Space line was abandoned to suckle on George Lucas' teat for most of a decade.  And I come back to find out that the Rock Raiders and Space Police are being revived, with new darker themes.  Perfect timing.  I just wish I still had all my old Legos (damn situational problems), so I could amass my old army of Ice Planet and Aquanaut dudes.

For some reason, I found this incredibly hilarious.

I, too, wish I had all of my old lego stuff.
I had a five gallon bin full of stuff, mostly castle stuff.

Also, I made these.
Gun Drone.
Gun Drone Shooting.
Recon Drone.
Saw Drone.
PARTY DRONE!!!
Figured the links save image stuff in the thread.

The action shot of the gun drone shooting works really well. I never thouht to use those lightsaber blades as laser beams... So stealing that idea.

The trick is to build outward using the 1x1x1 barrel piece.

Meanwhile, I has an army.

Interest petered out.  Maybe.  Mostly my ideas just don't want to fit together.

As long as we have a thread for talking about Legos though, check out the new Space Police sets.  Fucking Space Towtruck.  More importantly, check out the one with the "First Astronaut" statue.  The no-frills minifig with space-helmet, with a good attempt at the classic Space logo.  Portentous.

Just because I'm bored and I have too many other things to do to not waste a weekend on, I embarked on a little project I will never finish.  I ran into some technical issues though.

Spoiler: This can't be good. (click to show/hide)

It's a submarine by the way.  It will be quite large (or would be, if I was crazy enough to finish it).

You must finish that.
Seen hardly any of it, and it's already amazing.
