Well, I just spent a good hour and a half building this kickass bike. It looks like you can really haul ass on it.

How I did it: I started with the steering and handlebars, and just worked from there. The big wheel in the back doesn't want to rotate ala hinge tool, but nonetheless, it's pretty awesome looking. Thing looks like it would weigh as much as a train. Amazingly, I can functionally steer this thing 45 degrees left and right (90 degree range). So YAY! It works! ;D

I think I might have to use this as my new avatar sometime. Unless I can come up with something better.

Now that I look at it again, it seems I semi-steampunk-Harley-fied Fenrif's speeder bike. :P

I guess you are right when you say we have opposing building styles. I build for function, looks are a bonus, or unless I have extra time. I let the function serve as looks before I make it look better. BTW, I haven't improved the looks of the bike yet. I like it how it looks right now.

Another Warhammer inspired idea obviously.  I'm not particularly pleased with the outcome, although I like the theory.  The hatch opens, the gun angles (more from the mounting than an intended feature), and of course the heart of the idea is the articulating legs, with full joints and three "toes" each.  They all wound up a lot bigger than I intended, and the I couldn't do anything interesting with the chin.  It's probably just a legacy of my childhood, but I expect any dedicated Lego warmachine to have much larger weaponry, but my missile launcher idea went all wrong.

Inspired by that design-blog link I posted.  It's a star-fightery thing that can fold down into a walking machine.  More high-tech looking than the blocky grey crap I made earlier.  I really started rushing by the end, and half-assed a lot of stuff like the engines, but it's more a proof-of-concept design than anything to look at.  I redesigned the legs on the fly about four different times, especially the front set.  They've got 2.5 degrees of movement - back/forth swinging, lateral folding, and the front set can pivot at the center, which I nearly gave up on.  It's still pretty ugly but it works, so while the stick legs wouldn't be very maneuverable, it could actually walk.

$53.00 from the online order.  I'm convinced those prices are inflated by the one-off factor as opposed to mass production.  But damn.

I'm beginning to suspect that the new forum software loads all pictures on the page, regardless of spoilerization.  First thing's first: everybody shrink your damn pics.  If nothing else, crop out all the blank space around the model itself.

Simple pieces, overkill turret. Have fun getting around this sucker.


The only Achilles Heel I see with this is that you can easily destroy it by striking from directly above. But these would usually have SAMs to support it.

Actually, that was part of the original plans. I wanted to mount a few of these on a battleship, but as a stand-alone tower, it's still rather effective.

EDIT:
Actually, I'll see if I can mount a turntable on the top disc. It would require hiding a few panels to get to rotating, but it's a small cost for a neat effect. I can just merely rotate/hinge the main disc. Even better.

And done. Now it's 300% more deadly. Now the top ones can independently rotate 190 degrees while the entire mount can rotate 360 degrees. Now I'm scared about the top tier.

This thing definitely has to be featured in an RTS (especially something like Starcraft or Command & Conquer). It's so damn effective. A 90-degree gun will always be in position and can be covered by the dual rotating turret facing you alternating between one and then the other thanks to the 360 turntable. You'll be under constant fire. Oh yeah, and it can also take on aerial targets, and julienne fries.

Uh oh, I just came up with one last idea that'll take this beyond the impossible on overkill, making it 300% more effective than it already is. Add a turntable on the base. And give it independent tracking between upper and lower tiers.

So I made this cool engine-looking thing. Seems I start alot of builds that way. :P Anyway, thought I'd go for some sort of Y-wing fighter style design, with the engines seperated from the cockpit by struts. Then I noticed you could make dwarves with the diddy legs and the big white beard. So the mighty SpaceDwarf starfighter was born!

Its quite bare-bones at the moment, I've hit a snag as to what to do with all the empty space. Some form of greebling is in order, but I'm not sure what. I also found out that if you have the short legs you can't make them sit down, so apparently all spacedwarves stand, all the time.

Itnetlolor, that turret looks evil. :P The second picture with the base makes it look like it should be huge, like 10 stories tall. Scary!

That's nothing. I topped it off with something far worse.

Comes Railgun and pulse cannon standard, along with the optional defense turrets. This thing is perfect for orbital defense.

With this model, I might be able to fasten some legs onto it and make this monster mobile, expanding it's capabilities. :evil grin:

I just did a bit of tweaking to make it more structurally sound looking and added a seat.

That transforming fighter-walker was a total piece of crap.  I badly engineered almost every component; I built it branching-style from the top down, adding pieces wherever I wanted them; and the whole thing just looks stupid, with too many pieces without actually moving much.  So I went back to that sketch-blog, and looked at the inspiration again.

It has its problems, but I'm much happier with the design.  For clarity, it pivots at the "neck" and "pelvis" - the body sits underneath the head when standing, and spins around to fold up behind the head when flying.  It's a little funky looking in either stance, but at least it looks like it actually works, instead of a shambling collection of parts.  It's horribly over-engineered of course.  The head and lower neck can tilt for no good reason (partly habit, partly because the hinges are a useful way of chaning build direction), the legs can splay out as well as flex which made them rather large, and the whole pelvis is held on by one little nut, along with other break-points.

I still think it looks cool though.  Now I need to decide how to arm it, since it wouldn't be a Lego warmachine without proper weaponry.  Maybe actual arms, attached to the body.

Yeah, I was going to mount something there, but I decided to post it as is.  And I've got other stuff to do.  Something I learned working on that model: The LDD haaates readjusting models with lots of joints.  Chokes like emphysema on the calculations or something.

Also, if this thread is going to survive at all, we really need some etiquette on picture sizes.  My pics don't even load in my browser before it gives up on displaying the page.

We can chop down the whitespace in something as simple as MS paint, I think.  That should be good enough for most of the stuff.
