Yes. Clearly a bug that ought to be fixed in the future, but exploit it in the meantime.

Atom Smasher.  It is one of the very first things I build on every fort.  I used to use magma to get rid of stone, but now more types are magma-safe and won't be destroyed.  Also, at least in 40d, even melted stone would stick around for a while, so I just got into the habit of destroying all trace of it with an atom smasher.  Be sure to take measures so when you pull the switch an unlucky dwarf isn't caught in it... unless you so desire.

Bricks.

Thousands of them.

Piled up in bins.

Turned into walls and floors and causeways and bridges and workshops and wondrous things.

if you want to get fancy, you can alter the stones you hate in the raws so that they boil away into a pleasant mist, including everything made of that stone.

Half the time I atom smash stone I don't like. It keeps the frame rate healthy since it isn't tracking an additional twelve thousand objects.

In earlier versions, tossing it all down a chasm also worked.

I like to set about 20 of my guys to stone crafters, and have them do nothing but pump out cheesy goods to hand out to every trader that comes by.

Set up a few mason shops making blocks - they store in bins so take up less space, and building constructions, workshops, etc. out of them adds more value than using raw stone.

Also, it's a good way to employ all those lye maker and fish dissector migrants!

Hey, I'm cool with you tying a dog up and shooting it with a ballista if you're short on elves, but there's not need to lie about it to us.

I kinda want to change the raws so instead of saying merchants have arrived... it says Waste Management Services has arrived!

You could also mod the stone so that it is smeltable at the furnaces.  You can get a non-moodable skill bonus on your dwarves from melting the stone.

Atom Smashing is best.  As a cautionary measure, set some lockable doors outside the atom smasher.  Lock the atom smasher up before you start your smashing.

Bonus points if you use a lever to lock the doors and accidentally lock Urist McManhattan in during the 100 frames between the the lever pull and the bridge triggering.

You need to make said elf leather into the most amazing work of art.  Embed it with every kind of gem you have, stud it with metals, and sew images into it.  Erect a shrine outside your fort with that in the center.  Let the elves know that you view their very skin as naught more but a medium for your dwarves to work on.

Use it to make a new reincarnation of Planepacked!
Read more about the exploit here:
http://www.bay12forums.com/smf/index.php?topic=54959.0

Basically:
1. Wait for a strange mood using stone (mason/stonecrafter/engraver/miner).
2. Before the moody dwarf claims a workshop make a burrow containing your excess stone but not the workshop, then assign the moody dwarf to this burrow.
3. Have fun while your dwarf grabs 239569 pieces of stone into his workshop.
4. Delete the burrow, so the dwarf can finally start the artifact.
5. ? ? ?
6. Profit!
