Ok, so, hey look, further apologies! Unfortunately, with my daughters 1st birthday coming up, and a thousand other things having sprung up, I just haven't had a chance to play DF all week. I SHOULD be able to hunker down at this tomorrow night, but we've all seen how my predictions have turned out in the past. I'll post when I'm sitting down to play, so if I haven't posted, and Quatch is ready to go, then go ahead and just bump me down one. Again, my utmost apologies for this.

On that subject, I spent 3 hours yesterday giving background information to my wife about DF just so I could explain why I was all excited about making my first perpetual motion power generator.

I hope you meant a dwarven perpetual motion generator. Because if you are referring to the old "use magnets to make a part spin forever" trick, i'm sorry to inform you that it will not generate electricity at greater efficiency of energy expended, nor cost efficiency than a diesel generator.

To explain: yes, you can make the PART spin forever, air and gear resistence being negligible for several decades and the magnet being infinite. The problem is that trying to IMPART that motion onto a coil by placing magnets on that part will not work because it will generate counter magnetic resistance.

It will generate some degree of electricity, this is without a doubt. The problem is that it will be more costly, even in the long run per kW, than just buying deisel fuel.
