Forbidden buildings should be clearly labeled as such
« on: April 23, 2010, 12:26:01 pm »

The only way to tell whether a workshop's forbidden is to look at its items through the t-menu.  This has been a source of massive confusion for newbies and veterans alike.

The quick solution would be sticking "Forbidden" at the front of the building's name, e.g. "Forbidden Carpenter's Workshop," but this is inconsistent with the way items are labeled.  On the other hand, the forbid labels for items arguably aren't clear enough either.

Not sure if it's possible, but perhaps the colors can be inverted to signify that it's forbidden.

Man, ninja'd by a potentially inebriated Lord Shonus. I was gonna say to burn it.

Funny, I was thinking about just this same thing as I played minutes ago.

My solution is to have an overlay that makes letters flash over buildings to denote their status, kinda the same way lightning bolts flashed over buildings in the old Sim City game (and probably in the newer ones, what do I know) when they didn't have electricity. Just hit a key, and you'll see a green A flash over the building if there's a dwarf tasked to work there, a red S if the tasks there are suspended, a brown or yellow F if it's forbidden, and maybe something to denote if it's cluttered (C?) or marked for demolition (D?). If there's more than one applicable status, the letters flash in turn.
