It's really not. It's an historical fact that those ideals and outlooks stemmed from a theological point of view, specifically Protestant Christianity. It isn't debated by anyone with a knowledge of history; it's a self-evident fact that the majority of the populations in question espoused that religion and its ideals, and that the key figures and motivators of the ideals themselves did. The only close example to a purely scientific take on the principle during the relevant time period (ie, not after the idea was well-established and tested over a century later) is Adam Smith, who merely convinced those in power in England that it was profitable to the country and government to apply the principle of personal freedom to economics. The only thing to be debated is whether a Christian base is necessary to maintain such an outlook and principles.

I think the benefits of the principles in economic applications are obvious enough that it should not be necessary. Some people link the decline in self-sufficiency, personal motivation, and the subsequent increasing desire to be suckled by the government to a decline in Christian principles and values. I link it to an increase in stupidity and petty entitlement brought about by the advertising culture. It should be easy enough to show anyone that everyone being healthy and comfortable is a good thing, even if some people are insanely wealthy as well.

Now that the principle is established and tested, empirical evidence is enough to show that it works. A Christian outlook is irrelevant to seeing the benefits of espousing personal and economic freedom. However, understanding the outlook of those of the time period is relevant to seeing why Social Darwinism was not involved, indeed was not applied until after the time period in question.

Well, I guess we're out of stories for being reported or banned or muted.

Ah, that's not true. I got obliterated by an admin on what was supposed to be a free-range, kill or be killed game for killing someone who had killed one of my characters for no reason. It was on ToMEnet back before pk'ing was illegal. He wanted to pick on someone he thought was powerless, so he repeatedly nuked my level ~10. I then pulled out my ~35 and wiped the ASCII floor with his ass.

Guess who was seen by a latecoming admin and killed by "Divine Wrath"?
Me, killed by an admin on a free to pk game for avenging myself on a troll. Not only that, but he did it when I logged onto our party leader and that meant the loss of the whole group's savings and equipment. Mind you, I was later apologized to and given a free boost to a similar level. However power in ToMEnet comes from equipment, not levels. Especially back then before all of the nifty new level-based abilities. Considering that it can take 10-20 hours of gameplay to establish something like that, and that it's totally irretrievable, that is probably the worst thing that has ever happened to me in a game. I quit playing my then-favorite game for over a year straight.

I've been muted a couple of times on the forums for a uni social club. Once was for telling a girl at the centre of a flamewar to shut the hell up, the other was about 2 months ago, after I had been an ordinary committee member, secretary, and subsequently president of this club, and had now left entirely to do other things. This was because in the introductions thread we have for first years, I mentioned I was the real power behind the club, and reverted a mod-edit of that post. The president didn't like me much

Huh? Theres plenty of plasma in space, like stars and all that, so I don't get it.

Anyways, regarding misusing the report to moderator, the only time I've misused it (it wasn't so much a misuse than out of frustration) was right after the initial attempt to fix the forums and the links on the top weren't working right. I had made a bug report on the bug section but out of sheer frustration, I went and used the report to mod function to get attention to it, I did say sorry for misusing it like that and wouldn't do that again. I guess my frustration was apparent since nobody said anything about it.

I've received a final warning before.  Then I was good for a couple months, then it all went away.  Then I got in trouble again.  But threetoe is so much more chill nowadays.
