Also, entering lowsec and saying "hi guys" is a great way to see what the inside of your ship an empty local chat looks like.
In fact entering lowsec at all. The gates between low and high security space are pretty much camped 24/7. completely safe 99% of the time, with the exception of a few specific systems.
Fixed.
That's true, but no-one will believe you :P

From what I've experienced, this.

Typically if someone's camping a gate, you won't know it. They'll have a cloaked ship looking for any juicy prey and, when they find it, they scramble and call in the reinforcements. Although I have heard of a rather coordinated group of pirates... They sit exploration ships around a system's sun and watch the gates from there. It's harder to do, but they can actually watch where you're going and have a fleet waiting for you if they're particularly skilled. :)

Ahh, the fun logistical side of pirating...

A game that promotes that would be the best thing I have ever seen.

It's funny how I've never been banned anywhere. I don't know why. I had some warnings because I've posted some warez on unappropriate forums but those was the only times I can remember something like that.

EVE not only promotes it, they revolve the in-game news around it. Seriously. When cloaking came out, people immediately started training and adapting their pirating techniques. Now that exploration skills have tutorials and whatnot, people understand that you can actually use some of them to locate ships. Specific ships, too.

I've heard tell CCP may even be adding tracking bugs into the game that you can discover and remove in any station with a repair bay. That would make pirating a lot more interesting. You'd have to be even more paranoid that someone was watching you. Doubt that'll happen, though. ;)

CCP seems to have so little love for miners. The game really is all about the pirates I find. I quit after going so many updates with no real improvement for mining. When I joined we had the same top end setup for miners as we did when I quit. a hulk. The capital class industry ships were not really what I was hoping for.

Call me a carebear but it just wasn't interesting and it could have been done a little better. I was at the top end of the mining setup, lacking only the really expensive stuff needed to get the last few percent out of my lasers. There just wasn't any point to it, people with battleships still brought in more minerals in less the time by shooting stuff.

I have never been banned, warned, reprimanded or even muted for anything.
That's what I said till I joined SS13.
This SS13 place sounds awesome, I'm totally in! Never been banned, warned, muted or whatnot for anything, and I've been involved in quite a few silly 'trolling' scenarios back when I was active on Data Realms. I remember I got reported for doing nothing wrong on Maple Story too. It had me freaked, I was sure something was gonna happen to my account, then again, I was young and naive back then.
It's just the Goonstation server. Their admins are evil. For example, complaining about pornographic pictures in their server earns you a permaban. Great fun.

Heh, I kinda got banned from a small EvE alliance.

I argued with the alliance leader over his religion (I swear I didn't mean to insult him, but the universe couldn't have been created 1000 years ago...) and he edited the vent logs to make it look like I was a spy from another alliance. I was then blown up and thrown out, with all my stuff locked inside 0.0 space.

Luckily the guy tried to join goon swarm shortly after. He paid them billions of isk to join and was promptly blown up and laughed at by both them and his old alliance.

Good times.

That seems out of balance.

When you consider that lots of miners are filthy rich, it's not that bad. The game economy actually does require miners to function, as ships an ammo aren't made with the scrap the fighters get. It's kind of a delicate balance, really. There are even some pirate factions that won't touch your mining barge as long as you don't interfere; they just want the cargo in your can or in your freighter.

I've run into some very organized, and friendly, pirate factions during my time in EVE. If only I could afford to play again... Le Sigh. :P Yeah, though, the really good pirates are like all nice and stuff while they're taking your junk. It's kind of crazy, but when you realize that they make way more money and risk a lot less by just taking your stuff and leaving you alone, it's what makes EVE really unique. It's like seeing piracy made into a business.

Somewhere in a darkened room a Pirate CEO tents his hands dramatically, inhaling deeply from a cigar. "Make sure you don't damage the barges," he rumbles, "or I'll cut your nuts off." An adviser leans in, "Sir, is that really wise? They'll think us soft!" The CEO turns slightly, puffing a cloud of smoke into the adviser's face. "If we take the barges, then how are they going to fill another freighter for us to steal?"

I've actually heard tell of a really crazy group of pirates, too... They'll sit battleships on you in lowsec or nullsec and, for as long as they can, will force you to mine for them under the threat of podding you. They even warp scramble you so you can't get away until they're done with you.

I don't really see any room for improvement. I mean, you're sitting staring at fucking rocks all fucking day, instead of actually doing something requiring skill or thought or touching the keyboard... You want the rocks to shoot back at you? There are rocks that shoot at you: they're called rats, and they're what most carebears mine. For more materials and money than miners, ironically...

Slightly flawed, there. Rats don't tend to drop any ores. Ores are what your ship is, in most cases, made out of. Equipment and ships and all your fun pew-pew pellets... Those are all manufactured. They're manufactured from "carebears". Like it or not, everyone on EVE needs "carebears" to exist. Miners are what let you blow the everloving crap out of random people. They make your ammo and guns and ship possible.
