Quote
That's silly of course because nearly (but not quite) every nation that prospered in the cold war period did so because they walked a middle ground between capitalism and socialism.  Japan and later on South Korea were pretty much the only hard core capitalist countries to prosper.  Besides possibly Cuba, no hard core commie countries could really be considered success stories.  But middle ground regimes were prospering all over the place, Israel, India, Western Europe and most of the British commonwealth, Turkey, Taiwan and so forth.  Even in south america, a lot of the good parts between the periods of instability took place under third way regimes.

From these countries, only India can be considered neutral. Israel and Western Europe always was very pro-West, Turkey's forces fought in the Korean War as a part of UN force, and Taiwan was always an enemy of the communist China, so it had no other options. I agree that they can't be considered exemplars of capitalism, but I believe that playing as a part of a winning team mattered.

On the other hand, there are countless Latin American countries that have suffered from selling out to the West. Going for a Cubastate might be the best choice.

I wonder if your problem was not angering the left but rather not favoring the right enough.  I don't understand all the specifics to the game, but it seems that strengthing the right reduces the left and visa versa.

I'm surprised you succeeded in keeping the reconciliation army intact throughout the game.

Of course, I usually make the destruction of the right-wing aspects of the army my goal for the first season.  At least the left doesn't support death squads...

It's a shame this game auto-forces an ending after three years.

There hasn't really been much activity in this thread other than me posting, so in an attempt to drum up interest, I'll have you vote for my next Run after I defeat this run. I am also doing this because other Hidden Agenda LPs have 'democratic voting', so I guess I should too.  :-\

The options are:

A) Radical Moderation: National Liberation are morons, Popular Stability are fascists. Neither party should dominate Chimerica. The Presidente must do as much as possible to crack down on these extermists, or, failing that, rack up a high body count. (If you choose this path, I will attempt to get the leftists and the rightists to wage an insurgency against me.)

B) Popular Stability: The people demand a strong leader that will protect the rights of the conservative ruling class. We need to restore capitalism and fight against the Marxist foe. (If you choose this path, I will attempt to get nominated as the Popular Stability candidate for elections, as well as survive to the end of the game.)

C) No Civil War: Chimerica have suffered from chaos and rebellion for far too long. Now, it must strive for peace. (If you choose this path, I'll keep the army together for three years.)

Vote now!

Wow.  Chimerica is terrible.

A, because those extremists (on both sides) seem to be the main reason Chimerica is so unstable.  Can you make a middle class by killing all the poor and all the rich?  Let's find out!

I actually find that by going extremely pro-left, you have a better chance of developing a great country. The game clearly has a leftward slant.

I mean, the Right is represented by the bad guy from Street Fighter.

Yeah, the left side does seem a lot easier to sympathize with.  Sure they're impatient, but is that surprising when so many of them are starving?

Not like that jerk plantation owner who couldn't even come up with a good argument.  "This is an outrage!  How dare the native people of this land reclaim the land we stole from them?  God favors us blah blah bluster bluster".

The death squad seems fairly Right to, which doesn't help.  Main problem with the Left is their buddiness with communists, but America only looks a little nicer.

The Communists are actually very friendly, but since they're in the middle of Perestroika when the game was developed, you get to a certain point and they start telling you to capitalize again.
