Not that I'm not open-minded or anything.  If Ushat Theatertick is happy with her wife Sareve Meadowrifts, more power to them.  But where did their son and daughter come from?  A dwarven donor father?  Did they kidnap some goblin children?  Will her family show up in a future immigration wave?

Inquiring minds want to know.

Something like this happened once before where a leader died and his wife kept her consort position, but a woman ended up being promoted into his old leadership position. Both had dead husband listed in their relationships though.

Check their relationships, are they actually married to each other?

Can't check the wife; neither she nor the kids are in the fort.  The dorf in question is one of my starting seven--not a noble, and no deceased husband listed for her.

And, completely off-topic:  For the love of all that is good and holy, where are the crafting skills in the labor tree?  A decently-skilled woodcrafter immigrated, I figured I might be able to make some trade goods, and he's just sitting there, No-Jobbing.  Staring at the craft workshop and its queue, and I haven't even got dangerous animals on the map to throw him at.

Know bug, http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=17 and this one http://www.bay12games.com/dwarves/mantisbt/view.php?id=381 they seem to be related. Also check the error log in your dwarf fortress folder it should be rather large.

I wouldn't be surprised if the error file was huge; I've been twiddling around with world gen parameters.  (I wanted my volcano, dammit.)

Taking me forever to get the right save...  the seasonal saves were annoying before, but this is getting to the point of "You drop to the ground, exhausted".  :[  Just lost about two hours of work.  (Fume, flail, sob, etc.)

Yes, me too.

In 40d, you could (with Dwarf Companion!) neuter the males after they had produced enough offspring, or turn them into trannies, but then they stopped producing offspring. This was nice for birth control, but it would be so much nicer to have some lesbians who magically produce babies.
