Dwarven Heroes mod
« on: April 21, 2010, 09:44:53 pm »

This mod puts in a 1 in a 100 chance of any given dwarf being an Überzwerg Elbentöter (Überdwarf Elfslayer).  Hopefully, they'll rise to the top in legends mode, and give plenty of epic tales to tell.  You may even be lucky enough to get such a dwarf in your fortress!

Spoiler: Full raw file (click to show/hide)
This mod also includes a bunch of little tweaks, but they're less important.

I'm thinking of maybe doing similar things for the humans and even elves (e.g. the scions of Cacame) and maybe give them trances in addition to the stat boost.

Dwarven economics are still in the experimental stages. The humans have told them that they need to throw a lot of money around to get things going, but every time the dwarves try all they just end up with a bunch of coins lying all over the place.

Um, awesome! How exactly does it work and how to I try it out? Is it just a copy and paste job? that seems to be not the case in this version, no?

This is a very interesting idea. I'd love to hear how it works in practice.

wowza thats some power. I like how the cast names are Morul(male) and Urist(female) but why did you give the male uber a 1.5% chance and female only 1%?

Obviously because he's a male mysogynist who believes in oppressing the historical fact that there are as many epic heroines as heroes. Or rather, that the dwarves have no dichotomy and that is actually true for them. You bastard!  ;)

Dwarves live in an ideal world! Where women are not naturally handicapped by physical frailty! RESPECT THE FANTASY! Respect the spirit of women and the fact that when we create an imaginary world to have adventures in, we can allow women there to stand on equal ground with men!

This is a choice Toady has made, and one I personally like. I doubt he will include a physical dichotomy, though he may eventually include a natural nurturing outlook in the dwarven women which will cause them to shelter and protect their children rather than using them as meatshields. Who knows.

None of this comes close to a real explanation of why you thought fit to do that. But yea, if you're going for realism, the chances of a naturally occurring female warrior of superhuman strength are smaller than those of a male counterpart.

Ok, Architect, just calm down a little.

I guess the presence of smileys and the consecutive arguing for both sides doesn't register as tongue-in-cheek with some people.

Well, it's a forum, so all you can do is make it kick-them-in-the-crotch obvious and hope they get it.

New forum look is somewhat nice. Missing some of the fluff, like signatures displayed in quotes while typing replies.

Must admit, I thought Urist was a boy-dwarf's name.

Though, I must admit, a cleaned up version without the little notes would be nice for adding into the raws to try it out.

I didn't want to say anything before, because it just wasn't worth it. But now that you've brought it up: It's one of the unisex ones.

Hey, that's a great idea. I use same stuff for mutants in the future version of Wasteland mod to make them diverse (and using different bodies), but I somehow didn't think of using it to make rare "hero" creatures for other races :).

Too bad we can't pick castes in Adventure Mode, as we make our d00d.

How do you mean that? You can certainly change your caste in the screen where you can also change your name, after choosing your skills, with 'g'.
