To venture to 4chan, into hell
« on: April 21, 2010, 09:25:34 pm »

Yeah, so it's 4:23 AM in the morning and I'm profoundly bored.
After seeing lots of retarded memes on moronail.net (pleonasm?), I've decided to go have a look around there.
The harbour of retardation, it seems.

Anything I should know?

Gentlemen.

It's not that bad, it's just there are a lot of 14-15 year olds on the internet and they overreact about everything.  /b/ is bad, but even it isn't OH NO WORST PLACE ON THE INTERNET IT'S SATAN'S HOUSE OF INTERNET as some would have you believe.

You'll be disgusted, then completely desensitized, before too long.  Just give it time.  Fun tip: find out what a particular board loves, then post a really obnoxious, horribly typed thread-start with an almost-related pic praising the Hell out of that topic.  Sit back and watch it burn.

It's my impression that 4chan has become less of what it was, but eh. That is true.

It's not really the horrifying place of taboo subjects it once was. Anyone with any literary talent left long ago, so there isn't really any epic copypasta. Copypastas are wonderful things the first week of life they have, then they become absolute trash, then they have sentimental value when you look back on them in an archive on ED or something like that.

The images you will see will either be: A. Old images that have been posted ad-nauseam due to their own sheer popularity, but someone keeps discovering them everyday. B. Random porn or gore, this is usually new stuff, but nothing provocative. C. Underage retards who shouldn't be browsing the site in the first place, adding pictures of themselves and asking if they are hot.
This wasn't always the case, but 4chan is far more mainstream than it used to be.

Pedophiles usually post whatever messed up crap they have on Sundays, avoid Sundays. Though most of them have been banned, IRL or OL.

You'll be enamoured with /b/ for the first few months you visit 4chan, if you take a liking to the place. After that though, you'll migrate toward other boards to look at stuff you care about.

The mods are almost never on, or are not really doing their jobs.

Desensitization occurs very quickly if you lurk on /gif/ for a few days.

Trolling is only possible if you post a thread on religion or politics, just like in real life.
EDIT: This is on /b/. You'll have to learn the nuances of trolling the other boards by lurking, which basically how you learn everything else about 4chan.

Epic really only happens when the life of someone is ruined, keep this in mind. Everything else requires creativity and humor, something most people on 4chan lack. Make sure you're not really morally compromised about such ruination.

Everyday is repost day.

4chan probably is a bit less than it used to be because now everyone just repeats the same shit over and over. Of course, it was never good. They just had a couple of witty people leave a few posts as they passed through.

This fantasy of /b/ in particular ever being anything more than a retarded clusterfuck of mentally stunted college agers "pretending" to act like obnoxious 12 year olds is just total crap, of course. /b/ is retardation made manifest.

It was still shit though.

Yea, I've wan off of 4chan as I feel I've seen a good bulk of its image library. Its weird, its like content just gets recycled. I've gone to other chan sights. Currently happy on 7chan. Fucking slow though. 420chan, is alright. I havent been there to long. Its bit, I don't know. Its different from other chans.

It's not just religion and politics.  I once got a 100+ post argument going with Luke Skywalker vs. a Grey Knight.  Did it again the very next day and got 50+, but /tg/ is easy, and trolling /b/ is like peeing in a sea of pee.

/b/ is where people went to pretend to be racist and bigoted and then they actually became racist and bigoted and failed to note the irony. The rest of 4chan I can't really offer an opinion on except /tg/ is okay-ish, but I never really go on 4chan anyway so I can't offer much insight into that.

It was never good, from what I can tell. There was no golden days of 4chan, anonymous was never more than Fox New's arch enemies and nobody cares that much anymore.
