Ok so I started playing DF a while back but have yet to try Adventurer Mode. Anyway I just gave it a try but I brought up the quest log and can't figure out how to get out of it. I'm sure it's something simple but I feel like I've hit every key and haven't quite figured it out. So yeah, what am I doing wrong?

Quest log? You mean the Q (Shift+q) menu? In the newest versions it's default is esc. It was probably space in 40d and lower, but I'm not sure.

T actually, brought up this map, when I was attempting to get rid of it tasks and sites and what not popped up, space gets rid of all of that but it doesn't get me back to gameplay.

Use > (Shift+.) to leave the travel map.

Note that on this map you can travel MUCH faster. Wounds heal up too.
