it would be nice to have for example an artefact armor with the image of steel axe on it, and if you use it with an axe-dwarf it would make some benefits for the steel axe too. i know it is not an urgent request but i think it would add some colour to the game ... what do you think about?

I'm not too keen  on this idea... why would an image of an axe automatically make any axe you hold a wonderful weapon?

Remember, at the moment artefacts are merely very well made objects. Not magical.

This is supposing that artifacts/magic stuff would only be used for combat, which I think just ain't true.   But artifacts will eventually have powers; we just don't know how Toady will want to implement them.   But their art images may have something to do with it, perhaps.

it was just an example i mean it could work with other artefacts as well.
or it should be with names ... the catslaughter chair and the catslaughter table together make a rome even more valuable then separetly. I just put an example with armes because it is what the adventurer mode uses too.
and don't forget it is a long-futur reflection not a "it must be done today"

I find it interesting that you spelled "artifact" correctly in the thread title, yet no where else...

This begs the question of what an image of a square would get you.

It's pretty much a fact of human nature that if you can't be bothered to make yourself understandable, other people won't be bothered to care about what you have to say. So you're welcome to be lazy with your grammar, but you won't find much of an audience for your posts.

Ack!  An improper use of "begs the question!"

Sorry, but "begs the question" is when the proof of an answer "begs" the question that was asked to get the answer.

I'm as keen on proper grammar as the next guy, but when somebody writes artefact, it's pretty obvious what they're trying to say. It's a bad habit to pointlessly mispell something, I remember I used to call people 'ediots' for years, though I didn't appreciate the irony at the time.

Still, it's not worth mocking someone for it. People come here with ideas, and it's just a bit silly to mock them over a couple misplaced letters, no matter what you think of the idea.

As for the topic, I don't think it's a bad idea. Providing clues as to what something does via the image on them might be more fitting than just explicitly stating the stats for easy perusal. It's certainly better than having no idea what it does.

Eventually learning what it does and having it stated would be nice for those of us who like a bit of certainty, and could come about well after any curses have expressed themselves. Risk and reward (and losing) is fun after all.

Of course magic and magical artifacts aren't in the game yet, as has already been stated in this thread, so no need to badger/correct me on that.

Images are just decorations.  Doesn't make much sense, sorry.

also, my sources say that artefact is actually British English...

As for the topic, if artäfacts are ever going to have some special power, then making it connected to the images could give these powers the randomness and variety one would expect from Toady, so, why not...

Daaang.  I've been using that wrong for a while then.

I'll have to find a way to replace it.

There is no logical connection between shapes designated in the shapes raws and any other objects in the game. Perhaps, if at some point an artifact has an image of a shape that another civilization uses as a symbol that civ will do whatever it takes to get that artifact; perhaps via trading, alliances, or war.
