"Choice of" Games
« on: April 20, 2010, 04:19:50 pm »

While I gave mention of this in the neat games thread (with Choice of the Dragon), I thought it deserved its own topic now that a second game of this type appeared as well as the ability to make your own.

Basically, Choice of Games created a pretty neat browser stat-based "Choose your own Adventure" text game engine and have thus far produced two games utilizing it- Choice of the Dragon, where you play through the life of a dragon in a high fantasy world, and the recent Choice of Broadside, where you play through the career of an "Albion" Royal Navy officer. Apparently they even take suggestions from players concerning choices that could've been there but aren't and may add some in.

What's more, the authors of the engine have made the source available as well as the ability to create your own games using their intuitive-looking scripting language. They even offer to host finished stories on the site and give 75% of the revenue (ad revenue, I presume) the game produces.

I just need to find the campaign book which I'm going to base it off.

Dwarves vs elves. >.<

Is it possible to secure a mate in Dragon? It seems everything I try I just end up back to my lair, alone, forced to simply fap every night.

Well, there's always the princesses. ;D

Oh, hey, a second game from these guys.

CotD mates: You're going to have to impress them in a field you and your prospective mate are both skilled at. Or for one of them, just be ridiculously famous.

Hot damn these are fun as hell.

I wussed out on my first Broadsides due to fouling up with my first ship's crew hard.  My redo ended up with me fouling up my courting, and only sorta-improving the condition of my crew (who still hated me infinitely).

Still ended up a gentlemanly hero of Albion, though.

(EDIT:  Also, I disarmed Villaneuve or whatever his name was.  Combat focus, oh yeah.)

My first run-through ended with me being rear admiral, husband to a loving wife(Beatrice), best friends with the Gaulish captain, and being generally loved throughout the land.

By the way, I don't know how many people know this, but there's an old RPG called Albion, which has an interesting story, though it's pretty hard.

Second run I pulled off Admiral, Hero of the Navy, Knight, etc., though not a particularly large amount of cash.

My first run I was Admiral, Knight, Hero of the Navy, all that good stuff. Was married to the Red headed lady, since the other ones wouldn't dance with me. I lived in a estate when I wasn't serving and I ended up kill the Gaulish captain in a duel, at the end.

Broadsides was much fun. Ended up as an Admiral, Knight, but with not much other success.
