We upgraded to a new version and now we're trying to figure out what smilies look best.  By the way.  What do you think of my samples?

They look slightly dorky/creepy, but they're much more visible =)

Hmm... I think 3 works best, since 4 looks a bit muted and the outlines on the eyes for 1 looks odd.

If I were to choose from them, I'd say 3 is the best so far. Personally, I'd still probably use the "bearded classics", but these actually look decent.

Hmm... The "There have been X posts while you were typing" warning seems really glitchy when previewing a post. It keeps giving the alert for the same posts, and in the topic summary at the bottom of the page, it kept repeating the offending posts at the top every time "preview" was pressed, like so:

Also; bug, when I get any new post(s) and press preview, it re-displays it them as new post(s), and says a new post(s) was posted. So I could have thousands of copies of the same post(s) just by pressing preview over and over again.
Yeah, it is glitchy. Has been for quite some time. :-\

In the minor intrest of better compatibility at little cost, I reccomend saving those in indexed mode if possible. That way, the transparencies show in IE6. With such a small cost, the only reason not to is if you are one of those bullies who malovently break compatibility. Or just too lazy to care.

The images seem to work fine in the latest browsers.  Frankly I don't feel that I should have to do extra work to support old (and broken) software.

I also don't really know what this "indexed mode" is.

Edit:  I checked and I don't see an option to "save in indexed mode" in pant.net.

I'd venture he's referring to saving as PNG-8 instead of PNG-24. Those images don't appear to have any pixels needing alpha transparency, so you'd actually do better with PNG-8 in that case because of the smaller file size, if nothing else.

I don't see any way to save it as a PNG-8 as opposed to PNG-24.
