Best embark ever.
« on: April 19, 2010, 06:56:23 pm »

So I wanted to embark somewhere with a cave.  I find a nice location without an aquifer, and I set out.

As soon as the fort starts, FIRE.  EVERYWHERE.  There was a dragon living in the cave, and he happened to be standing right where my dwarves parked their wagon.  Luckily, my dwarves run and scatter, and the dragon turns to fight my pet dogs.  The odd part is this.  One of my dogs apparently bit the dragon in half somehow.  It died mysteriously, split in half, but the combat logs don't tell how it died.  It just shows pages of it being bit by my dogs and nothing happening, and then all of a sudden it's just cut in two.

Well anyway, after it died I explored the cave.  At the very bottom of the cave, it opens right into the first underground cavern.  It's a nifty little setup.

Some pics.

The ground level.  The cave is underneath a little hill of obsidian, I think it looks cool.

The wide open underground cavern, not fully explored yet though.

Of course, you know the dragon was weakened somewhat by the wagon falling on him out of the sky.

Yes. Clearly a bug that ought to be fixed in the future, but exploit it in the meantime.

A new Dwarven Military branch - Tactical Wagon placement.

Here's the seed.  I'll try to get an embark location up in a sec.

Here we go, here's the fort location.  Dragon cave is in the middle of the 3x3 area I chose.

No, no mods.  Just a tileset.

The only thing changed was the world gen options to increase the size of the underground cavern.

That's almost a natural Undergrotto. Now to colonize it.

That's my plan, the only problem at the moment is the fact that there are 1 or more Giant Cave Spiders hiding down there.

The Dwarven Paratroopers have been opperating since .40c, at least. I've had wagons airlifted onto hostile dark fortresses.

I have not yet mastered the art of getting tilesets to work with this version.
I need tilesets 101.

Haha, that is pretty epic, a dragon getting bitten in half by a little dog.

The Mayday tileset is the one that I use.

Just download and unzip that, and it's good to go.
