Its only hillarious until you realize about half of America thinks like that.

Actually,only some mentally unstable people who live on disability and spend most of their life on the computer write this stuff.That and kids intentionally writing crap to be funny.Of course,that's what you get when you throw natural selection out the window.Thanks a lot,civilization.

I'm sure you can find politicians and celebrity's and various other people to say that there are people that really think this way,but that's far from half of America.

According to gallup polls, 45% in America believe in YEC (as of 2004). Sure, they aren't all posting inane comments on the web, but they are everywhere. And from personal experience, many of them do share the views being made fun of in this thread.

That i wouldn't know about.I get out a fair bit,i have a pretty close knit group of friends and a good amount of acquaintances(drinking buddies).While i have met some hard-core christian guys,they seem to be fairly few and far.My belief's,are well,irrelevant and off topic,but I rarely have gotten into it with people such as in these quotes.political affiliation seems to hit a lot more nerves these days than anything else.

And how 'bout that, looking at that and the overlaps of scientists and their beliefs and those of normal people, it looks like the argument nearly on this thread was from a misconception on both sides.  Seriously, people?

I also think the pole might be unintentionally biased.  Polls are voluntary, and people who feel strongly about them are more likely to answer questions.  For option 2, it's harder to feel it strongly.  It's pretty much a compromise belief between 1 & 3.  As for 3 . . . well, as you can see, it has a minority.  So there while the ratio of those who feel strongly to those who don't might be the same for 1 & 3, 3 has more people in general.  With people who don't feel strongly, it's a fair bit more unpredictable who will agree to answer questions, since it has less to do with belief and more with personality.

These are just my untested observations, of course.

Ya, in general 1 = fundies, 2 = moderate religious, 3 = atheist/agnostic/other.
As for the percentages, they are not off. I have seen them time and time again from different sources and different polls.

It's mostly a regional thing.  Not to mention these are subjects most people aren't willing to shout about in public without the protection of anonymity.  Let's not forget the little sampling that 14% of Americans think Barack Obama is literally the Anti-Christ.  14% may not feel like a lot, but that's statistically forty two million people who believe something that would make even one person believing it batshit crazy.

Well... From my point of view, the USA is in a pretty hefty downfall, in terms of global importance. Popular media (meaning lowest common denominator media) here used to kinda like you guys in the 90ies, hated you completely during the Iraq thing, but now don't even really mention you other than to laugh at your political processes. You're kinda like a modern Byzantine empire or something now, stagnating and crumbling under your own politics and infighting.

I am aware that this assertion is based on almost no proof and could probably be discredited by a drunken child, but for now I feel like I can post it and not feel completely ashamed of myself. Yet.

I highly, highly doubt that all of them are serious. I'd say a good portion are just trolls. Although the fact that the trolls and the fundies are indistinguishable doesn't surprise me one bit.
