So, I was thinking about how to mod in homosexual dwarves using castes, and I'm wondering how, exactly, the MALE and FEMALE tags work wrt dwarves having relationships, getting married and pronouns.
That last one is especially intriguing because I noticed that with ant-men, although only the queens and drones have gender tags, the workers and such are still referred to with female pronouns. I'm not seeing any tag that would do this...

Their gender flag in the Raws do that... Under their caste.

You should also notice that antwomen workers don't have a female symbol next to there name.

As far as the game knows, there not any gender, they just called women.

Marriages are made irrespective of gender tags, as far as I can tell.  I have an insect race with a genderless caste and they appear to have children and get married , just not in fortress mode.

guess a question needs to be brought up about transgender, as in both male and female tags. slight joke but mostly serous in how it would function, can't test atm...

If it were an INTELLIGENT creature, no.  Breeding occurs when there is a marriage.  Due to the way that spore sacs must be aligned in sentient species, all sentient creatures are strictly monogamous to death.

ok i managed to have time and i broken the female caste dwarf and gave the male caste both gender tags. error log interestingly did not give errors under the male caste for having both tags BUT the world creation restarted over an over on civ stage.

semi interestingly that when i "broke" the caste_female tag by just changing capitals, the error log did not complain about it.

Perhaps it would work in a way if you'd also add both tags to the females.

You'll probably find some of the mums are male and the like. And possible there are male - male or female - female parents for some dwarves.

I'm assuming these work by just checking for the opposite tag, I've not done any kind of research.

If I remember, in the old version sometimes the King would show up with a male consort and the Queen with a female one.
