Possible flaming swords?
« on: April 18, 2010, 08:28:12 pm »

So I was thinking...And thats never a good sign!
What if we were to have a dwarf fully equip in fire proof items, such as fire imp leather, then give him a wooden training sword, and then somehow light the sword on fire.

Could we, in theory, have a dwarf fighting with a flaming sword that lights others on fire but NOT himself?

No, because a dwarf isn't smart enough to keep the !!firesword!! away from his beard.

Max, there are limits to what we do here. Even in the name of dwarven science.

What do you really need to turn Elves into Dwarves? Mutation could make them grow a beard; insanity effects could make them evil-minded, aggressive, tree-hating cave dwellers, and instant, full necrosis of their lower legs could make them short.

why not use the flames of a [insert custom creature here, maybe a forgotten beast] and make a flame sword from a reaction of the material.
still I don't know wrapping the sword in fire imp leather would protect the wielder but it will cause fire damage though.

It's just... I think it's too dark a thought to contemplate, even for Armok. @_@

Think of it this way.
You remember you last time you killed hundreds of dwarfs for science?

The beards were the first to burn, and they lived a good 30 seconds each before buring themselves without a beard. Times that by the 100 dwarfs, and that's 50 minutes worth of life that the dwarfs were without beards. About 49 minutes longer then the flaming sword dwarf will live.

You could just have the flaming sword dwarf be a female dwarf and bypass the beard issue entirely.

Merely more blood for the blood god.  Also, avoids the issue of beardicide.

Dwarven women have beards.
Humans aren't manly anyway.
Clowns, well, they deserve beards but I don't think blobs of ashes can grow a beard.

Oh I don't care about the children, but the parent will freak out and stop trying to kill things, and things not getting killed makes me sad.

Actually, they don't.
