From the diary of Ziril Gusgashsigun, Granite 1st, 1050

As I followed the royal guard into the depths of Udildakas (Lanterncolored), I pondered my fate. Had I violated the production order? Was I to meet the hammerer!?

No! No, it couldn't be! I hadn't done anything wrong! Surely it was just the manager (Who just so happened to be filling in for the captain of the guard while he was sick), planning to give me some unreasonable request on my day off. I told myself this, but I couldn't shake the feeling of dread.

I was greeted by the scarred visage of the General, Mafol Bronzevale. Mafol Kilrudsebsur, who had not only ventured into the depths of the world thrice, but each time had returned with new pets. Her pets sat beside her, a cave crocodile, a rutherer, and a voracious cave crawler. I froze in shock, and could only think one thing:
This is how she finds food for her pets!

Hm... if i read that right... yeah.

Ill take Nish, Now 'Derek, profession: Soulchopper', the 5 carpenter, and five Axedwarf.
The highest quality axe they have and Milita Commander. A shield too.
A HUNDRED THOUSAND WOODEN LOGS!
Is unusually cheery and bubbly and frankly kinda loopy, but turns into what some experts may call "Armok Damned Frightening" In Combat.

Metalcries! Her quirk is to make stone crafts out of ore. The potential of the metal cries in anguish!

This is weird, there are no trees now! And it says hills! WTH. I'm going to try turning the weather on, see if that makes a difference?

We're finally here. The other side of the world. So far, it's every bit as lousy as I thought it would be.

And I wondered what they had been thinking, bringing their personal effects, when they should have been packing survival tools, as I did, as the peculiar Mr. Black-Hat did. As for everyone else (Including the armed escort!), the entire journey they were relying on us for food, shelter, breaks-- This isn't a vacation!

Argh. I guess it is for them, more or less.
They got the brochure. "Go forth, brave dwarves! The time is now to seek your fortune! The Northern Expedition needs YOU!" And on the front, of course, is an artist's rendition of the Jungles of Blossoming; full of hope, magic, and unicorns.

Do you see a unicorn? I sure don't. I keep expecting some ghoul to come in the night.

I still can't believe that same artist
chose to be part of the first Expedition, knowing the true nature of these mountains.

She even drew us a
Spoiler: 'map' (click to show/hide)
, though I think it's fairly useless. It doesn't even convey the height of the mountains here! And honestly, I think she got bored while drawing it, seeing as there are neither trees nor unicorns in this "jungle"

You heard me, no trees.

Looking back over the list, I suppose even I brought one personal item--a rope. If worst comes to worst, its just a sharp drop and a sudden stop.

(Take some time to think over where we should start digging in, which workshops should be built now, ect. while I write the next post)

I must have looked terrified, for the general rushed to reassure me that I was not in trouble, far from it! She said.

If I wasn't in trouble, if you truly "appreciated [my] contributions to the vital growth of Udildakas," why would you send me AWAY from the city, to be the leader of some remote outpost in the middle of a literal hell on earth?!

But I can't refuse, and I can't run away. She's sending two "escorts" along with the civilians.

I wonder why the king wasn't the one to give me these orders. Is this going to be a military outpost? Who would we invade? It can't be that.

Granite 1st, 1051, extremely early morning.

"Can't we stop for a rest?"

"Mekboy, we took a break yesterday. If you keep slowing us down like this we'll be overtaken by the caravans." Replied Ziril. As much as she liked him, a fellow mason, he had absolutely no endurance, and she couldn't let that disrupt the mission.

Soon afterwards, John Schidtt, exhausted, mis-stepped and tumbled down the moutain, landing in a grassy valley.

"Great. Fine, let's ALL take a break while I-"
"Ziril."
"-have to go down there,-"
"Ziril!"
"-come all the way back up and-"
"ZIRIL!"
"-What?!"
"We're here!" Skuld announced cheerfully. Gracefully as a mountain goat, she bounded down the steep cliffs to help her friend.

Ziril began to issue orders immediately. "Okay, John, go chop down some trees-"
"There aren't any trees."
"What."
"And in any case, I should be in the military, not performing these menial duties."
"First off, we don't even have a military-"
"We could! Hey, I'll even lead it." Piped up Derek.
"NO. We don't have enough people to spare."
"What about a Militia?"
"I suppose..."

"There. It's done, it's recorded. Happy?"
"Hmmm. I guess."
"Good. Now you; start digging. You; start chopping down trees!"
"There aren't any trees."
"&*#!"

I'm sure there's plenty of room for an uprising once the fort has more people.  ;)
