I see a bug in the next version coming up getting squashed, and say to myself that I'll start my next true fort on that version because I'm not sure if I'll need to re-gen or not.  Repeat ad infinitum for each successive bugfix build.

For example:

.02: Oh cool, meat is fixed in that version?  Maybe I'll just wait a couple days...  What if I get a good starting location but then I have to re-gen and lose it?  Better safe than sorry!
.03: Pathfinding fix and undead finally killable?  Perhaps I should wait for this one since the fixes are so good.  I don't want to make a good fort and then just start over.
.04: Fish to catch and hospitals become pretty much fully functional?  I had a bad break on my .01 fortress with those hospital bugs, I think I'll wait for this one.

Anyone else have a similar problem?  I gotta break myself from this habit.

So far most of the fixes can be hot-swapped, so I haven`t cared much.

I'm playing some short-term 31.01 stuff to muck around, but I won't be starting anything long-term until the final bugfix / stable release. I just don't want to, I guess.

So far most of the fixes can be hot-swapped, so I haven`t cared much.

It's the ones that are non-swappable and obviously important that keep from thinking that.

For example, I don't think that your murky pools will suddenly spawn fish after a hot-swap of raws post-worldgen.  But that's just me and I could be completely wrong, but if I ask repeatedly "is it fully compatible with old saves", that would just get old fast.

So far I'm just continuously world-genning maps to explore in Adventure mode, and when I get a good one I save the generation info for the next version.  Hopefully I'll find a way to keep the rock layers the same between revisions.

Doesn't help that I plan to plan out my entire fortress beforehand with a little reveal so I avoid those underground caverns unless I want them.

Hmm whats that smell... Oh hi Urist still taking that nap, its been 5 months I can only manage to sleep 3 days. You might want to get that Axe wound checked out though; you are in the Hospital.

Its in the changelog on the bugtracker.

@OP:

Yea I'm kind of getting the same thing here as I'm sort of waiting for full(er) functionality of hospitals and miltary. I'm trying to get one started though, but keep getting blocked by my OCD about getting the right kind of dwarf that I want for the expediton leader/mayor and the fact that I can't back up using the esc key isn't helping.

I wonder when the heck that bug with the esc key will be fixed.

Look at it this way - the first few fortresses you run on the new version will probably fail in ridiculous ways anyway, so you might as well get them over with.

I put a few hours into the .30 release...but stopped for a good two weeks after my military was wholly non-functional and the rain was killing dwarves left and right.

I'm back to playing now, just because I want to actually test of the new features. Goblins are absolutely wrecking me though.

I will be playing 'to win' once the merge is completed, the military is addressed directly and the path finding from construction bugs are cleaned up. Because of the last two, frequent game saves and broken dwarves make it hard to play a real game.

I can't be the only one who decided to wait until DF reaches a stable point before trying the new version.
