Nginx, terror of the deep
« on: April 18, 2010, 04:57:54 am »

In honor of the recent forum software shenanigans, I hereby propose that a new creature be added to the vanilla-version underground ecology: the dreaded nginx.  The name does sound like some weird and forgotten dangerous critter.  Maybe a large, thin arachnid with a freezing breath attack.  Just throwing the idea out there.

I support this, but I think it should be a worm-like scavenger.

How about an intentionally glitched critter that causes your game to crash? You know, to keep the spirit of the Nginx.

...

You know, that's an awful idea. Never mind.

Ah, good. I'm glad to know I'm not the only one.

The dreaded Nginx is quite obviously a 6 limbed, hairy critter with spiny protrusions covering its body.

I agree with Urist. Steampunk is like Darth Vader winning Holland's Next Top Model. It would be awesome but not something I'd like in this game.
Unfortunately dying involves the amputation of the entire body from the dwarf.

I imagine it also has a exoskeleton forming armored plates...

Hi!

I like the idea. Although I think a tentacle monster or a slime monster would be really in the spirit (especially if it can split and divide to multiply). And having a paralyzing touch/poison is a definite must, I agree.

And I think it should be a zombie :)

Considering how it keeps 'dying' and 'rising again'

The forum is trying to start a tantrum spiral. Judging by this thread, it's working.

What is the nginx error?  Knowing this should better inform our speculations as to what to make it.

At the very least, add it in to the list of names that HFS, Forgotten Beasts, and Titans can draw from.

Definitively sounds Lovecraftian.

Perhaps an aspect of Nyar?

Infinitely powerful god with a thousand forms, messenger and servant of the blind chaos from which all things are formed, and you can't even be bothered to spell his name fully.

Yes, a Nginx monster sounds like a 'fun' idea. As long as it's not at the first cavern layer and it cannot fly.

Tarran has the "Tarran Bug", a bug which causes the affected character to repeatedly hit teammates while dual-wielding instead of whatever the hell he is shooting at.

It must have an interrupt radius to rival that of the rhesus macaque!
it also probably travels in packs, at least 5-10 at a time
