What do you want to see expanded?
« on: April 17, 2010, 07:14:53 pm »

Eg, after all the balancing and stuff is done and this release is stable what mechanic do you want to see expanded upon? Personally, syndromes for me. I want lots of new effects and ways to cause them. I am personally going to have a blast when disease comes out, modding all sorts of things and giving other players many many MANY more ways to have FUN

What do you want to see expanded or built upon? Nothing new, like adventurer skills, just enhancements to current things, eg more syndromes, more types of weapons, more legends actions, etc.

1. Military. I want to see old management concepts merged into current system.
2. Healthcare. Maybe its silly, but i hate to have dwarfs who are incapacitated forever. Okay, maybe it makes sense when limbs are actually gone, but venom-that-killed-motor-nerves? I dont want to have dozens of useless paralytics consuming resources, who have no chance to ever recover.
3. Overall interface. Having even simple variant of DT in-game would help alot. Production management, trading, well, almost every menu needs some improvements.
4. Hauling.
5. Everything in raws. All workshops, orders, skills, liquids, etc.

Breasts of my wife.

Seriously though, I would be happy if all new changes wouldn't be a "something made to fit a certain purpose" but rather organized into working systems. The examples are the new syndrom feature which is nice but is not finished in many ways, like if there's a poison there should be an antidote; and I am espicially speaking about new Smelter abilities: they look very fabricated to suit the current purpose only and there's almost no flexibility.

Of course I don't want it to sound as an accusation, Toady One did a great job, but I want these things to be worked on a bit more to have working concepts rather than random possibilities.

The interface. Seriously, it blows. I know the elitists here love it for some reason, but that's only because it grew on them like a fungus. When 3rd party programs are necessary to play the game (Dwarf Therapist), something is definitely wrong.

I can agree; the missing ingredient for modding as it stands, in my opinion, is the ability to use reagants that are in containers; we can make products and put them in containers, but without the ability to reverse that it's rather useless.

I'd semi agree with you. I'm happy with the layout of the interface, and I'm used to it, but I think you are right in that it would be very cool if those 3rd party applications were incorporated as well.

[Healthcare Update Thread] Personally, I can't wait for doctors to get possessed and start surgically attaching axes to champion soldier's arms.

Needs better job management tools. Integrated Dwarf Manager/Therapist functionality would go a long way towards making the game playable without the need for 3rd party tools.

With the new combat system being awesome, the weapon/shield/armour system could use some improvement.

Add stuff like weapon surfaces used to parry, have the worldgen characters stop using twohanded weapons along with a shield, quit making hammers get stuck in toes, that kind of stuff. Just to have the whole combat system free of weirdness.

It would also be nice if weapons attack surfaces could be defined a bit more accurately. Like convex surfaces, serrations, maximum penetration depth, etc.

But that might be just me thinking that.

EDIT: though it would of course be way more awesome for weapons to be 'procedurally generated'. Define just 'sword' in the raws, along with all the forms 'sword' could take. Then when making a swordsman, generate his sword with those raws, the creatures anatomy and the entities preferences. Could be neat.

Mining and everything that comes with it. First I badly badly badly want the ability for designations to transfer up z-levels, so rather than copying out a complicated design over multi-zs I don't have to re-do it every single time. Secondly having carts that mine haulers can stuff loose rocks into (or even better, have the carts automatically catch the items as the rocks fall into them). I don't want realistic mining or gravity itself as another thread (and many more in suggestions) have brought up, because that takes away my creative potential which is imperative in a fantasy setting, but I badly need to be able to dig properly. Sigh.

Something else I just thought of; the ability to designate b-C constructions in open space would be amazing. You could order a whole tower floor built at once rather than having to come back repeatedly and micro-manage the entire thing. I know you can be tricksy and designate some stuff then remove parts of it to achieve this effect, but it's such a huge pain in the arse.

So yeah, not really anything to do with the new release.
