Actually, I consider ED quite useful - if you seriously want to be active on the internet, check the things you want to talk about favorably for entries there and see if you can stand the constant attacks. And since everyone gets their fill there, they don't have the bias you usually have - ED hates everyone, including themselves. So, it is good training for survival on the internet.

This having been said, that article on Dwarf Fortress is actually the nicest ED article I have read. If you ignore the foul language, you will find that they really enjoyed playing the game and are really getting into. Try it! Just replace the curse words with normal terms, and the review you get says basically "Wow!".

They focus a lot on the violence and the detail in there, but they also underline the complexity of creating a fortress.

Na, its probably more because the crazy stuff which goes on in DF is pretty much equal to the choas and craziness of those websites.

More than popularity, it's focussed on anyone/anything who acts as though they are entitled to something. Really, humility is what they value above all.

At least in my perception.
