I'm not really happy with this, it's no haiku, but it came to mind after the thread on using cats to explore caves. And a certain cat lovers optimism that it's not a death sentence for them all.

Maybe it's the style, it feels too forced for me, and the end is kinda iffy, and.... but then, we're our greatest critics.

Here it is, as someone might at least enjoy it.

Seeks a feline feast

Failed charge
By the monster large

Grusome end
As small claws rend

Resounding thud
Floor coats with blood

Haughty huff
From ball of fluff

As fortress fries

I have too much time on my hands, I saw this and immediately started to write.
If anything, this thread has told me that when it comes to poetic arts, I'm very rusty.

Yup, I agree with that.

Anyhow, as no one seems to know Japanese or wanted to oust themselves, here are the translations. As I said, they are not great poetry, so please don't be disappointed.

Goblins
have screamed.
Cat master.

Dwarves going
to a party.
The voice of a toad.

Notes:
"Goblin" (or actually "goburin") is not marked for plural or singular, which means in Japanese, it could be both. It could also be "The goblin(s)" as definite article is also not always needed.
The screaming is the negative screaming as in "screaming in agony".
"Cat master" is the closest I can get to the play on words/ambiguity of the last line. It can mean "the owner of a cat/cats/the cat/the cats", but it could also mean "the feline lord"

In the first haiku, I use goblins as a reference to winter (which is when their caravans come). Toad in the second haiku is a common reference to spring.

The first haiku contrasts the violence, negativity of the first lines with the calm, positive concept of the last line.
The second haiku contrasts the merriment and liveliness of the party-goers in the first two lines with the approaching death in the last line.

On the other, it's all on fire. And the dwarves are in it. Ouch.
