Dude, never mention your age on the internet until you're in a community where the majority of the people on the community respect your opinion, especially if you're nine. Now every time you debate something the response is going to be 'You're 9, you don't know what you're talking about' and every time you get snide or snarky or do something someone doesn't like people'll just brush it off with 'Ooooh, someone needs to get to bed earlier/eat less sugar/ect.'

This isn't from personal experience, but rather observing shit like this happening all the time. That was a bad move man.

Age doesn't matter for me, it's just how you type really.

if its all lowercase with no punctuation it takes a hit

But otherwise I don't really care, I'm sooper young compared to everyone else anyway.

I can't pretend it doesn't bias my opinion of people, because it does, but I try and keep that out of my actual actions.

There is a reason though that I didn't reveal my age until like 6 months ago. It's because I've been here two years, people see me as a minor annoyance at worst and I try not to get into debates anyway because I suck at them.

I remember when I first got on the pc. It was long ago...something like a decade or more. Not when I was 6 though, since pc's were still pretty freaking mindnumbing back then. I first wandered into the resplendent world of horrifically formatted personal sites (this was before youtube, facebook, twitter, myspace, wikipedia, blogging etc), virus ridden porn and questionable medical advice sometime at the beginning of the dot-com bubble.

thats what being on the internet for so long does to you. I've seen so much shit that anything I say or do looks like sunday school lectures by comparison.  I'll delete the last bit though, because you guys don't seem desensitized yet.

My dad introduced me to computers when I was two years old.  Later, when I was a little older, I'd sit on his lap while he played DooM.  The next stage was playing Diablo with him when I was about 7-8.

I learned the letter configuration on a standard QWERTY keyboard before I could do my ABC's.  At the age of 9, I knew more about Windows than my dad's coworkers at the software company he worked at.  Heck, they'd ask me for advice.  Can you imagine getting tech support from a 9-year-old?

I did manage to scare quite a few people with my DooM/Diablo/HeXen II background.  "Concerned" doesn't quite describe how some of those parents were feeling.

And there's really no telling when exactly you stop being "too young" for sensible discussion in an internet community.  A while back it came out that I was nineteen, and a few people started damn near disregarding my posts because I was obviously an immature, ignorant, and chemically stupid teenager.

...I'm not saying they were wrong, mind you.  It's just that they were awfully quick to jump to the conclusion.

Boy, I'm glad I'm 20 now, so I don't have to put up with that anymore...

I wish that I had an awesome techie dad like yours. Mine's a technophobe. Can't stand computers for their 'complexity', makes me/my mom/my sisters do stuff for him. He's a cool dude aside from that.

Hey, I'm not saying that people who disregard you because of your age are in the right. Quite the opposite. I'm just saying that's what'll happen.

Mine prides himself on not knowing anything, so he can let his underlings do all the computer-work...  ::)

Also, ASCII porn on 2400 baud modems. Admittedly, I was 10 or 11 by then...
