also, pipe rifles made in-game don't require ANY materials, causing the final rifle to also not have a material, making it only cost 20DP and have horrible aim.....  learned that the hard way.

I have a suggestion some cavern monsters.

Hell Knight (It's a Doom 1,2 and 3 monster which is very strong, It throws green fireballs that are moderately powerful)

Baron of hell (One of the strongest normal encountered enemys in the game, it can one hit kill with it's green fireballs and it's claw attack is extremely strong. It is in Doom 1 and 2)

are you using 99b?  adventure mode uses wood and junk, while fort mode uses one log or one bone...bone rifles tend to be tougher...but all pipe rifles are crap...they're fine for hunting, but you have to upgrade them to assault rifles to be of any use in military...(but that's about how it was in fallout...a freaking BB gun {not Red Rider LE} did more damage than the pipe rifle)
pipe rifle [SHOOT_FORCE:200]
regular rifle [SHOOT_FORCE:100000]
...so yeah...either upgrade those things with a crutch and gun parts, or forge a real rifle in the smithy...
(but really...train your soldiers up with bayonets or rippers while you're building from pipe rifles to assault rifles to combat rifles and lancers, and you'll be set for both ranged and melee)

Oh!  and Deon, the Shredders are currently taking their material type from the junk parts, and I made one called a "__-Shredder"  Maybe throw in a crutch as a reagent and use its material?

Yeah, I've realised that so it's planned as a fix. A crutch is a bad idea because wooden shredders won't cut anything. I think I will use a bar of metal instead.

oh yeah...forgot they have a melee saw attack too...

naw at the gunsmith in fortress mode on .99b, it's able to be made from nothing, giving rifles after upgrades, just "Rifle" I'll post a picture if you want?

did not see that...there is no reagent A...and my auto-tasked "create pipe rifles" all went to the bowyers shop and made them correctly...yeah...an item with a null material value...that has to screw your game up...I'd suggest changing that C to an A in your savegame raws, then selling off those null rifles (I don't think magma will burn them up...as they are made of dark matter...) that way all new rifles will be good.

oh...other bug...computers.  Only train knowledge works in 31.13...I guess the other skills have new names or something?

yeah...there's military tactics, concentration, observer, leader and the odd social skills 
lessee...playing chess for concentration, wargame simulations for tactics, observer...might have to be a more "live-training-only" (same for consoler & pacifier), reading old architectural blueprints for building design, organizer and record keeper are easily maxed out right now anyway, leader...I have no idea...don't even know what it does...
(special computer training..."study internet humor"...lowers your comedian skill with each use)

have you thought of adding in a rubble soil layer?

you could put alot of gems in there too so that a soil layer finally had something useful in it other than sand.

Actually there's a lot of junk and copper wiring in soil already. A separate layer with more "gems" seems like a nice idea, I thought about that but didn't find out a good name. "Rubble" should be okay.

yeah it's only a  just hate the damn things being so completely empty of anything except as a sand resource.

you could make the rubble a sand too if you wanted (sift thru it for glass etc).

I just suggested it for flavor tho, yeah there's plenty of scraps around.

I have a suggestion for adventure mode. The ability to make wooden arrows into flaming arrows using napalm.
