Can you make it more clear, what do you mean by "see them as a status symbol" in gameplay terms?

And yeah, they will use them to "decorate" items too, so I bet they consider them at least a bit sacred or precious.

Why not using the Garbage mining from the Zombi mod. There Garbage was a normal layer. As far as I remember you had to process the garbage and there was a chance you could find crafts beside plastics.

It may work as a separate layer, and it was proposed in this thread before, but some rare stuff (like electronics/engines/generators etc.) may work better as gems to show their rarity.

Probably people would like things that are adorned with old technology and the like because of their ties to before the apocalypse. It'd give them a huge buzz to own one. The way I see it, it could be that either they're mystified by tech from before the end or nostalgic about it.

I understand what you speak and at the same time I cannot understand you . How do you think it's possible to introduce it via modding?

OK, let's brainstorm the gem-stuff this a bit.
Gems:
1) Common:
Battery, wires, metal scrap ... ?
2) Medium:
Electronics, synthetics, ...?
3) Rare:
Computer parts, energy cell, ... ?

Basically I meant that some of the 'gems' (computer parts and so on) would be totally useless but valuable, and would take the place of real gems.

Could someone upload a full game file with the mod in? Im horrible at manual modding and I messed up bigtime. I also like having several files of DF that are Vanilla then others with mods.

You answered the question yourself by saying "7zip is newer".  I haven't heard of 7zip because Winrar works for me, and was around when Winzip stopped working for me.  When Winrar stops working for me, I'll move on to 7zip.

Also, the it should be possible to create a rifle in the raws that combines an existing rifle with a "toy" to create a better rifle.

For example:
Reaction: Hunting Rifle (weapon) + Sniper Scope (toy) = Sniper Rifle (better weapon).  It's sorta like in how the Fallout games you could ask people to make your default plasma rifle better.
