every man faps to every person he knows/likes. I've done that for about 2 girls that I've liked really, and it's because they have big boobs. 'Nuff said amirite?

Your cavern goes right through to magma?

Mine does it too. I have 2 pipes in the caverns. One of pipes ends in 1st cavern (so it is above 2nd cavern) and second pipe is in 2nd cavern, accordingly.

I discovered something interesting today. I dug down and struck the cavern, and decided that I wanted my staircase to come down two tiles farther north instead. I had just saved moments before hitting the cavern so I save-scummed and attempted to re-breach the cavern in the more aesthetic spot. But the cavern's layout was completely different this time. Does the game only generate the cavern layout at the time when it's breached? That wouldn't seem to fit some of the other things I've heard about, such as spontaneous cave-ins on embark and animal-man tribes being locked in combat with Forgotten Beasts long before dwarves ever lay eyes on the place.

I am also interested in the nature of cavern generation - many times I have quit and re-embarked on a spot without saving at all, and on most occasions the caverns change, but I have had some maps that didn't seem to at all (used reveal to check, from memory, but they had very recognizable features that I was planning my fort around and these were the same, even down to materials)

also, I quite like the effect you get when you set passages very low but NOT to 0 - keep it at 2 or so. You get the big open areas with high ceilings and one-tile wide tunnels linking them.

So... caves only decide their shape when observed? I think we have discovered a new quantum phenomena!

Schrödinger's cavern.

Fill it with cats and seal it off. Is there a catsplosion even if no dwarf can observe it?

The caverns are a bit twisty, but I still like them, from what I've seen. I would LOVE it if in the new version when AI dwarf fortress' look better, you could dig into a cavern and find an abandoned fort, maybe with some kobolds or animal men living in it.

God that would be fantastic.

Only in Dwarf Fortress could you get 4 armed heads scuttling about on cavern roofs.

I half expect to see the forgotten beasts tremble at the sight of a cat after you break into their base.
