Tormus, the lava cat.
« on: April 15, 2010, 07:37:02 pm »

So, I got careless trimming off some clownite columns today and flooded the room that my miners were working in. One of them died and the other took off, leaving his pet cat, Tormus, in the room when the magma sealed off the stairs (down... *facepalm*). My masons got the area sealed off, and I assumed that the cat was finished, but because Orthoclase no longer melts in magma, there were several of the stones strewn about, and I noticed that the cat was not dead after several minutes.

The cat lived there for about two weeks as the tunnels below filled up, and the miner had time to dig most of a tunnel, have lunch, take a nap, and then finish digging a tunnel and the down stairs (to connect to the up stairs i had so fortuitously dug on accident) and rescue Tormus, who at the time of rescue was sitting atop two piles of orthoclase in 5/7 magma TOTALLY UNHARMED.

I wish I could rename him "Magma Walker".

Tormus cancels shitting bricks:  Urist finally showed up.  Need to look aloof.

I'm sure that cat looked at Urist McPickaxe and thought, "Took you long enough."

It's a mystery, I must admit
To those who edit their init
So while we sing this silly song,
Why not turn your temp back on?

Magical kitty!
We must shower him with bricks of Orthoclase!

My second miner died in that same lava. I'm running vanilla + mayday graphics. Only turned off intro and music. No safe magma here...

Huh. Well that's pretty cool, then. Throw him back in and see if he does it again?

Actually in this versions, things in magma drown only. Otherwise, their fat just melts off without killing them and after that, nothing happens.

I can't imagine that for most things having all the fat burn away is okay.  Can you go swimming in magma in adventure mode?

Also, see my sig for a similar 40d story.  Back then it was pitting and creatures falling on top of each other becoming invincible.

Well, the fat'll melt off, but it'll cause heavy bleeding too - eventually killing them.

Oy Malsqueek, if you check the description for your cat does it describe it as having no fat?

there a guide in adventure mode board explaining ow to swim in magma by lighting a tree and slowly melting the fat off, the trick is the fat melts slightly faster than bleeding out.
