yeah,i've always felt its the individual that needs to decide what alignment fits them and how they portray it.

I'm essentially styling my character off a Norse warrior. Not exactly a mentally sound chap, but smart enough to know when to be crazy and when not to be.With strong beliefs in honor and glory, and the more heads he can lop off before dying, the better.Has somewhat of a death-wish,but enjoys life and the thrill of battle. In this respect,i can see why he would be more of a neutral or lawful character than chaotic.

I'm not sure why Wotc kept alignment restrictions.Barbarians are pretty much based off of vikings, and they were some of the first people to establish a criminal justice system,as well as women's rights.Anyone who thinks they were just bloodthirsty raiders needs to research a bit.

True, except that they're not based that heavily off of the Vikings. They're more based off of the literal barbarians--the non-roman Germanic peoples of Europe and Asia. By the time of the Vikings, the idea of stable government and kingdoms had arisen, so you could argue the Brb class has little to do with Vikings. Its much more based off the gaelic and germanic warrior-cultures; saxons, franks, alemmanians, burgundians, all them.  In that sense it makes sense they can't be lawful. These societies were tribal and largely anarchic; with the idea of formalized law centuries in the future.

Barbarian's signature ability, rage, is based on the viking berzerker fighters.  As such, i think the original claim has more merit.  There's also a healthy dose of Conan and Noble Savage nonsense in there.

Right, except Conan was pre-antiquity, not norse, and the Noble Savage as envisioned by Hobbes and Dyden also predated Vikings. And though rage may have been partially inspired by the Berserks, its a tall order to claim there were the only group to ever do that. Centuries before the Viking era, Pictish Woad-raiders were famous for the same pre-battle rage, and even before them the Romans recorded Gauls working themselves into a frenzy before fighting.
In other words, to say Barbarians are based off of Vikings because they rage is making the strange and incorrect argument that only Vikings frenzied before a fight.
Theres really nothing to suggest Vikings, or the berskerks in particular, were in any way the inspiration for the class. In fact, they seem to have little to do with it aside from that rage. The Frenzied Berserker prestige class, though, clearly is modeled after them.

Oi. The Norse are a pretty intriguing people, I can see why you'd like them.
So your character is a viking sort of guy? Heh. I wonder how we're all going to end up working together; sounds like the DM is going to let us figure that out on our own.

Well, not sure yet myself.Going sword and board, with bastard sword.Felt it fit the profile of your rank and file warrior a bit better than "muscled guy with a big axe".
Except the bastard sword, that's just me trying to squeeze in some more damage.I know we have a couple rogues,i know one at least is going ranged.
The party seems well balanced, except for a healer of any type.this is low magic though,so that's normal.

I'm a bit worried about the forgotten beasts.should we cross genoraven's bad side,we will end up facing level 20 emaciated blob with two tails.

Really though,Wotc just watched a bunch of conan the barbarian when they made the barbarian class.

WotC didn't make up the class.  Its originally from 1st edition's Unearthed Arcana.  It skipped 2nd edition (as did the Monk).  Rage is new in 3rd edition though - 1st edition's is pure Conan/Noble Savage.

Regarding healing: surely all the Rogue's are taking UMD, right?  Snag a wand or two of CLW, that'll see us through.

Do wands exist in this setting? If they don't,wand of cure light wounds=bandage?

Also,I figured wizards of the coast made DnD from the beginning.I knew it was created by Gary gygax and the guy who's name i can't remember, but i thought they were the beginning of wizards of the coast.

That's what i get for assuming.

Gary Gygax and Dave Arneson started TSR, which published D+D and then AD+D for 2 editions.  It went under in the mid-90s and got bought by WotC by or before 1998, iirc.  WotC is a younger company, who only really saw a lot of commercial success starting in 1993 with MtG.  (They are now owned by Hasbro, of course, but they weren't at the time of acquiring D+D.  You can probably blame them for the awful that is 4th edition, though).

My ranger/barb is almost done.  He's the total outdoors type, the one hunter that gets his ass kicked when he tries to take down a unicorn with no bolts, or the one that "spots" a goblin ambush.

Went with riding, because cavalry charges are too bad ass to leave out of this game.
For weapons I went with lance, dwarven urgosh and composite longbow.  I wanted to go heavy crossbow but they suck so bad in 3.5 it's hard to justify using one.  Once I get spirited charge and/or power attack I should get some devastating damage out of charges.
I kept my mount equipment + player weight under the mounts max light load, and I kept my players weight under his light load too, assuming that he drops his travelling bag at the start of combat.

For skills I took handle animal, listen, ride and survival, plus a few scattered points in my class knowledge skills.  Nothing crazy, wanted to take some in forestry or something 8 intellect is not enough for the basics and fun stuff.

What do you guys think? cannon fodder underground?

edit: still need to spend about 1400g, any suggestions?
ps: check out my microcline mug!

Khantin, ways to spend gold:
-Masterwork weapons (+1 to hit!)
-Strength bonus on composite longbow (100g per +1 str used, take it up to your strength rating)
-special materials for armor/weapons (can be advantageous)
-tools, etc... (check out my character sheet for the possibly excessive approach)
-save some cash for food/water/alcohol: this is DF, the DM has to make us care.

I've got a 3 str composite bow, and I *think* I have all the miscellaneous stuff I want, maybe I'll buy an axe and a skinning knife.  I've got survival stuff covered (trail rations/waterskins/beer mug)
I WANT a medium mithril armor (so I can keep my ranger bonuses), but thats 4k gold away.

I suppose I'll get my melee weapons masterworked, but even then I've got 500g to go.

Oh as to materials. I know it probably wont be a problem because of the cost, but the adamantine listed in the srd is going to be an alloy of adamantine and like steel...or something. Since it's so scarce they alloy it just to have more of it. Pure adamantine will be a rarity, for like elite equipment.

What you are focused on mounted combat and don't have ranks in ride? That's silly. You'll fall off your mount alot.
