All great stories begin in a tavern. XD
I look forward to this. So we're running it IRC or PbP--have we decided yet?

IRC. The benefits of being able to say "roll a reflex save" And have the player immediately do it and immediately get the result back outweighs the benefits of a play by post.

Yeah, a tavern usually named something like the Plot Hook Pub, or the Verbing Noun, etc.

IRC sounds good to me as well, playing by posts doesn't really give the tabletop feel off to me. <_<

Any chance y'all could post up a summary of the game after each session so the rest of us that can't play can kind of follow along?  Would like to see how it goes.

I still don't think I'm crazy enough to play this game properly.

If nobody else does, I could probably do that. I tend to compulsively log as is, while my characters usually keep a journal themselves. Between those, I should be able to summarize most of the key events my character would be privy to, at the least.

Sounds good.I'm currently in the process of re doing my gear set up and changing a few things on my character,as well as setting up his backstory.
To me,Role playing and such is the main point of DnD versus combat, although combat is enjoyable.

Took a couple of ever-bright torches my self, even if this is a low magic setting,i'm quite paranoid about not being able to see,I'm sure your going to throw something in to screw with the non-darkvision characters. Also, could i get a confirmation on whether or not we are all getting mounts?

I can probably add something,in the form of in-character summaries of thing's my character thinks important.

I was wondering, how far are we going in the way of DF canon with the races?

Fixing up an elf character and was curious, because they're seen to be merchants, carnivores, and "ASDLFKSD DON'T TOUCH THAT TREE OR WE'LL AMBUSH YOU" kinda thing. This "cannibalism" on the other hand apparently applies to social norms, and isn't some thing that just eats at their minds...

'course, I'm going off of what the Wiki's got, since there's not much elsewhere to read up on DF Elves these days. <_<

So, i had the following thoughts about elves:

Endocannibalism: Elves consume the bodies of their revered dead, especially ancestors, in the belief that it preserves their souls and passes on their memories and experiences.

Exocannibalism: Elves consume the bodies of other sentients they have slain to emulate the qualities of their foes.

Basically, the act of cannibalism has spiritual significance for an elf.  The consumed is made immortal in the elf, and its essence made part of the elf's essence.

Kuru: most elves have contracted Kuru by sometime in early adulthood, but the elven immune system makes them mostly immune to the worst effects of it, and the disease is not typically fatal for elves.  Many elves do tend to laugh in inappropriate situations due to the disease, which gives elves a reputation for a strange sense of humor.

While the cannibalism thing may be ok between elves,do remember that most humans in the DF canon live in small towns they rarely leave, and probably have numerous horror stories about the evil elves.(cannibalism seems to be the number one reason the humans go to war against the elves in world gen)

Dwarfs, obviously, don't have the best relations with elves. As a chaotic barbarian,i doubt my character will care about the cannibalism thing, but it might be a problem explaining it to any do-gooders.
 Essentially,be discreet about it.

The consumption of a sentient being is a sacred act, and should be accomplished with the solemnity and ritual appropriate to such an act.

Just from what i saw on the character sheets, everyone i looked at was chaotic neutral.I found it amusing.Elves being lawful neutral or something makes sense, they follow the ways of their forest quite religiously.Good and evil are relative terms,so it can go either way.

Pro-tip

Don't do spell-casters in a low-magic world. (a spell-caster has access to magic, the martial characters don't, so very unfair.)

The dwarf fortress setting would have magical items be crafted as artefacts by moods and completely lack real spell-casters. (Think about the hilarity of having "Fonts of serenity" the donkey leather gauntlets of dexterity +2)

Dragons and demons still have magic, but those are exceptions.

Just my opinions.
