Lord of the Rings Online, Anyone?
« on: April 14, 2010, 09:01:31 pm »

Basically, Tolkien's Middle-Earth in MMO form. I've just finished downloading it, and I was wondering if anyone else would be interested in running the free trial? We could all play as MONOGENDERED DWARVES with MASSIVE BEARDS.

( That's enough reason to play, no? )

It also has an apparently vibrant RP community, so for those so inclined it should be fun.

The Wiki

I'm probably going to make a dwarf champion, rune-keeper or guardian OR possibly a human / hobbit warden. As for server, possibly Landroval or Laurelin? ( Depends on whether we get US or EU, I don't know how it works. )

This is not the worst MMO I have played. In fact, it has a decently in-depth crafting system and player housing, which is a one-up on most games. Also some great not-as-combatant classes, like the Minstrel

I like it a god bit....largely because it is not a LOTR knock off....like most games (just cause it has the title doesn't mean it is true to name)...I would play but alas I have no money right now to spare on my subscription -.-

I played this game on the Brandywine server, was fun. First MMO I've ever had my attention caught long enough to reach endgame, and loved it. Not really willing to play it again, though, as I'm not interested in MMO's at the moment.

I've never got round to trying this before, so I'll leave it downloading tonight and hopefully join you tommorow.

And i play every game as a dwarf with a massive beard... Though sometimes its only represented in game by my belligerant dwarflyness.

I'm on Landroval as a dwarf guardian called Morad of the White Mountains.

How hard is it to make a Kinship or whatever?

I played on landroval last year, it was fun. I do not have the time for it these days, but making your own kinship is pricey, especially if you want a guild house. I will take some time to grind the money, especially if you want to also do crafting, which is quite expensive as well. After level 30 you will start making decent cash from quests and from farming kills, runing instances is very good for this. I think this is the only MMO where there are almost too many tanks, or there used to be at any rate. The only negative, in my book, is the lack of skill trees and builds, and this makes characters clones. Some may say that even with builds players end up picking the same 'best' skills, but I have not seen that over much in WoW because each build is for a specific application.

Have fun, the pvp (Monster play) is very cool, when there are people in the battleground.

Did they ever fix the monster play? Back when I played (long time ago), they had some serious issues. I read that the monsters did finally get a real healer, but the big problem I had was people flipping keeps for Destiny Points or whatever.

Several dozen guys would get on their monsters, take all the keeps, then log off and switch to their Free Peoples characters and take them back. Rinse and repeat.

As someone who was really getting into RPing a monster on the Landroval server, that stuff was enough to make me quit the game. It just wasn't fun to go from easily winning against 2 freeps to easily losing against 200 freeps two times each hour.

Ruined the game for me.

Wait.... You can play monsters?

Like giant spiders and trolls and stuff?

Awesome!

double Edit:---
Nevermind, it just doesnt like gmail for some reason. hotmail works fine though. Gonna roll a dwarf on landroval, deciding on DPS or healing, hmmm...

yes spiders, wargs and orcs, but trolls are unlocked on the battlefield...I think this opens up when your character hits lvl 10, not sure if free accounts can do monsterplay

I did not see anyone exploiting in pvp with that trick myself Seabee, it might be fixed but I am not sure. I rarely found many people doing pvp when I tried to go solo, and I often did weekly kin vs kin pvp

I was wondering how many people still played it, its oold no right? I really find it ruins the fun when you're playing an MMO and theres noone else on there.

Allthough im allready liking this. I've made a dwarven bard thing. Whatever its called. Got a lute in a quest reward, and you can actually make your own songs on it! its awesome :P

Are you on Landroval? What's your name? And add me to friends: Morad / Wodgar. Otherwise we can't chat. =(

It does seem like there's quite a few people playing, maybe not so many dwarves, though.

Apparently you can farm crops and grow your own "pipe-weed", which sounds quite odd.

Adding you now, I'm called fenrif on there. You'll recognise me because of my badass feathered hat.

Just about to leave the introduction area and go wherever the map takes me, I'm level 7 or 8 i think

I only played it for a month, didn't have an appeal after that.

I find that with every MMO to be fair, unless I join a good guild or something.
