It's usually listed as "Epic Hunting Quest" rather than "Hunting Quest".

Limping = capture, tripping = fatigue, gotcha. Thanks! Back to the rathian plate grind. I'd also just like to say the volvidon armor looks totally awesome.

I hope it's not for armor. Rathian armor is notoriously useless.

Rathian armour is so bad it spawned a meme.

I'm not even joking, it is so incredibly bad that practically anybody who plays MH3 and goes near a community knows the Trinity of Retard - Rathian, Guan Dao, alex

Wait, it doesn't even have earplugs anymore. They made it worse since Tri.

Nah, I would say it's a bit better. Health +10 or whatever was worthless, so the only good skill on it was Earplugs.

Although, Fire Attack doesn't seem to make much sense on the armor. You're likely to be fighting water enemies with fire attacks, so to boost your elemental damage, you wear Rathian armor, which doesn't have any resistance to water? Seems pretty stupid. Especially since the main weakness of the Lagiacrus is fire, but the Rathian armor has a vulnerability to lightning, IIRC.

It's not very good regardless, though. Especially since we now have Hunting Horns with Earplugs, so...

It still has Health +20, which is even more worthless now that it's easier to get +50 HP from food. It still has Fire Attack, which is only useful 25% of the time at best. And Earplugs was replaced by Rec Level, which is nowhere near as useful.

Admittedly Demonic Blessing got replaced by Rec Speed -1, which is less awful if you don't know how to gem (which I guess applied to most Rathian+GuanDao people), but if you're competent then neither of those should matter.

Actually, it's worse if you know how to gem because the +1 Protection gem doesn't have any negative effects, while the +1 Rec Speed gem gives you -1 eating. And... I guess most people don't try to get eating, but I'll take no drawbacks over a drawback to a niche skill.

I think I've finally settled on sword and shield as my main weapon (as main as it can get anyway, good luck breaking any parts on monsters that aren't mostly horizontal), I just love how quick it is, and the (admittedly mostly false) sense of security the shield brings is great too.

Don't insult it's tiny shield! It can block roars, wind, poison breath and your allies clumsy attacks. Plus, you can use items while your sword is unsheathed.

Oh, it can block roars? And it's possible to block wind at all?

Well lovely! :D

So by that logic a person wearing a volvidon set (tremor res) can't be stunned by anything that it can't block, or am I missing something?

Sure but if you got evasion skills and max it out, you can actually roll through roars and wind. You can even roll through attacks if your crazy enough.

No, certain attacks are completely unblockable unless you have Guard Up (which is different from Guard +1). The Ceadeus' water jet is an example of this. If you don't have any guard skills, some attacks can still hurt you through your guard and also push you backwards if they're strong enough, which is why Guard +1/+2 is super important for Lance, because staggering through a guard leaves you open for a moment.

EDIT: Sorry, forgot about the evasion, ha. Still, I'd like to see you try evading through the Ceadeus' water jet.

Well I meant stunning inparticularly, like when you get "hit" by a roar or wind or a tremor or whatever, not damage. I know there's still a ton of stuff that would cause damage. :P

Actually, now that I think about it... I don't think it can block currents like when the Gobul inhales.
