Oh my god diablos is twice as bad as I thought it'd be, it wasn't even limping by the time I burned through 10 mega potions. To be fair long sword seems like a bad weapon for it.

You'll almost never see a 'blos limp anyways. It mainly moves around by digging.

Although, I freely admit that hammer is fantastic for most everything else. It's like a GS, but with more mobility, more utility, and LESS SHEATHING! If you're looking for a weapon to main, hammer is certainly among the best choices available.
But GS has mad badass points...

You know, MH1 was harder than later games in a lot of ways, but I think the biggest one was carrying quests. I was blown away by how much they'd turned from the most hellish thing in the game to a walk in the park in MH3. How many people here completed Powderstone in the original MH?

If you didn't, picture this: There's no such thing as armor skills or food skills to help you.  The areas are filled with Velociprey (which can pretty much match your speed when you're sprinting AND can leap into you from 20 feet back) and Bullfangos (which charge like Rhenoplos, only much faster and more often, and will do it straight at you as soon as you enter the room). If you don't zigzag constantly with proper timing to dodge the leaps and charges you WILL be knocked over. Also, one of the areas you had to go through was guarded by Gravios who can fire insta-kill death lasers from across the stage. Oh, and there's no ending on a subquest: You deliver all 3, abandon or fail. Hahaha, so much fun!

Not any more for me. When I first dove into multiplayer, GS's and LS's were EVERYWHERE. And they were terrible. Some of the GS users were so bad that they hit only a few level 2 charges and upswinged their teammates more than just twice.

It's badass when you can actually use it, but when you're getting more breaks with the SnS than the GS user... That's embarrassing. I would prefer a Switch-Axe to a Greatsword at this point.

In fact, one of the only weapons I really haven't used (aside from bowguns) yet is the Switch-Axe. I should get going on that.

I remember this. Good times. MH has become really easy (it's still harder than most games nowadays)

I see capture expert is about to become (more) relevant then!

I use the skill which lets you know the instant monsters are capturable. It saves me a ton of time since I usually cap the monsters as soon as I can and it usually ready to be capture even before it limps/flees.

I was originally like "WHY TAKE A VALUBLE SKILL SPACE WHEN THEY LIMP" and well, after I've killed a few rathians when meaning to capture thme, my tune has changed a little. :P

It is always very frustrating.

Not as frustrating as fainting at the same moment a small monster scratch damages the boss to death, so you don't have enough time to run back and get the carves...

I honestly don't seem to have a hard time getting end mission carves, but smaller monsters also don't tend to mess around too much. Except the ludroth, but I think that's a pretty common thing from what I've seen.

Question, when rathian falls over at the nd of the charge, is that due to fatigue or because she's ready to be captured?

As a general rule, when monsters trip over themselves, it's fatigue. Limp is the only way to tell when they can be captured.

I always kill Barroths before they start limping. Jade is much easier since he busts down a wall to get towards his sleeping spot.

Also I just completed the high rank Rathian/Barroth solo quest and all the carves they gave me were mega potions. Is that normal? I know all the DLC event quests are like that but I didn't think regular multi-monster ones were.

Epic quests usually gives supplies from EVERYTHING so you can literally scavenge readily usable supplies for a long fight over multiple monsters at full health. Non-Epic multi-monster fight has health reduced.

How do I tell what's an epic multi-monster fight and what's a regular multi-monster fight?
