Not sure, haven't heard anything about that but they are a new weapon to ultimate so it's definitely possible. Read up on weakspots and aim for them. Alternately get a bow with slime element and destroy everything forever.

Bows are all about weak spots. Hit impact weak spots and use power coatings, poison is good as well. Always use full charge and keep within the maximum damage distance.

Keep in mind what the charge levels are on bows.

As far as I know, I'm doing all of those things. I can work with them fine in single-player and handle most enemies in the port quests, but anything tougher there and the fights drag on to the time limit.

Edit:
Testing heavy bowguns for comparison: They seem to be a lot more powerful, and to me they feel more mobile. While the walking speed is slower you don't need to charge so you can roll at any time and have more stamina for dodging. Also, easier to aim because the shots don't arc.

That's fine. Part of monster hunter is finding what weapon feels good for you. I mean, of course, some weapons are a bit powerful, so I doubt that the whole arsenal is completely balanced, but what matters most is that you hit the monster continually. If the HBG feels better, then use the HBG. Personally, I enjoy the bow just 'cause unlimited ammo, but that might change in the future.

Sleep bombing is also a nice thing if your bow can use sleep. You can only do it once most of the time so use 2 large barrel bomb+. Use drugs but not the pills. Bring some combo materials and books for more coatings.

Using a bow, you must use any and all advantage you can get. Bring stamina items if you can, use the right element and the proper charge shots, traps, bombs. Hell, exhaust and paralysis can help even just a little.

Use the special bow shot if you can hit the head. Blast shot is best at hitting the head. As long as the head is in the blast radius, it will hit it.

And lastly, be very aggressive. As long as you can safely take a shot, shoot with impunity.

I played a bunch of games with my noob friends yesterday and decided to switch to gunner to bring myself down to their level. I could probably solo all the monsters we were fighting with double swords, so I wanted to make things a little more fun.

I am now in love with Bowguns. There's so much depth and versatility. Yeah, you don't do quite as much damage or have nearly as much defense. But only with ranged weapons can you paralyze a target, then poison them, then switch to its elemental weakness so you're putting out your best DPS. And you can heal allies with recovery shots! That's probably the best part of them.

Also pellet shots because you can hit the monster a bunch of times and knock your allies around! I can't wait to try cluster shots on my heavy bowgun. They're probably even better.

Pellet shots are the spawn of Satan.

Pellet is awesome to shoot down small things and your allies if they're stunned or sleeping.

Pellets seem to be good for breaking some monster parts offline, since at the right range they hit everything.

Pellet is always inferior to something else.

Always.

No exceptions.

Please, never use it.

That would be once. It's just plain out horrible. It does little damage, it comes in low quantities, it disrupts everybody in a two-metre cylinder in front of you...
