Monster Hunter Tri can be emulated using Dolphin with great success, displaying in 1080p, which the Wii can't do.

It'd basically be the same as Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, just with less monsters and weapons. Still a great game.

Dunno about system requirements, but they can't be too bad.

Yeah, you can emulate Tri pretty well. Do you know if you need a Wii Remote? Not sure.

But yeah, Ultimate is essentially Tri. It just has more stuff but the base game is the same.

I think like most emulators it's probably mapped to the keyboard. A PS2 style joypad should have enough buttons.

I've never had much luck mapping anything to the joysticks on one, personally.

Turns out that it's possible to play Tri using a PS3 pad for the most part.  Unfortunately the monster list can only be filled in using a proper wiimote and I have to choose between playing a pretty game at <20 fps or a hideous game at 30 fps.

Looks like I'm in the market for a 3DS then :-\

Isn't it a 3DS exclusive? It seems like Capcom has decided Nintendo is the more profitable path to take now, and seeing how the Vita isn't really taking off (at least not yet) I guess it makes sense.

Monster Hunter Tri is out for wii (not WiiU) and Monster Hunter Portable 3rd is on PSP.  Pretty sure we have emulators for them.  What are the differences between the games, and are they worth playing?

Considering Portable 3rd is Japanese-only and they have said they have no plans to ever translate it, unless you know the language I would go with Tri.

I use Team Maveric One english patch for portable 3rd. It lacks most weapon description and NPC translation but it makes the game very understandable. If you want to be legit about it, impost the original, rip the iso and apply patch.

I remember hearing something about the whole weirdness about MH4 and MH3U going to be on the 3DS/WiiU, so I did a bit of Google searching and turned up this GameFAQs thread: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/642342-monster-hunter-3-ultimate/65237430

You won't regret it. Also you can get some great deals now if you know where to look - a buddy of mine just got one for $100.

I'm fucking loving this game. I've clocked nearly 30 hours since it came out. I just beat the volvidon a bunch of times and got its armor (a mistake, that shit's ugly). Now for the big fight I've been waiting for - the Rathalos.

Will there be a wii u bundle? I'm only willing to spend about less than $350 on a new console+game.

Got it on 3DS, it's good, but why did they remove bowgun assembling?

If you're playing on WiiU you should come to the irc so we can all play together. ;;

Unfortunately I've only got the 3DS version for now.

I was reading a Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate review to try to judge if it was a worthwhile upgrade to Tri (unfortunately that wasn't a big part of the review, but understandable) and noticed that they mentioned an update in April...

Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate is going to have NA/Europe cross-compatible play? (According to Capcom, starting sometime in April). That's definitely a first and might just make it worthwhile all on its own.

Of course I don't own a Wii U or a 3DS yet but that's a different problem.
